[EDITED]It took only a brief moment for me to realize that I wouldn't be leaving Best Jeanist's sight for a while and by then it was too late to rip out of his grip and run.
Best Jeanist and I currently stride through the busy streets of the city I had spent so long avoiding. Well, he strides while I sulk, slung over his shoulder like fresh game ready to be skinned and sold to the highest bidder.
I couldn't help but internally grimace as we progressed through the streets. My auburn ears flick toward every shout and crash, my wet nose wrinkles in disgust at the intense smell of urine and petrol. I mean who would want to live in such a dreadful place? The loud noises, the bright lights, and not to mention the overwhelming smell. Just this small glimpse of city living had already awakened a dull throb in my head, imagine what a day out here would bring on.As we continue, I cautiously examine my surroundings, noting most of the stand-out features I spot in different individuals.
Some people had gills and fins, while others had scales and claws. I couldn't help but wonder how others lived with quirks that had such a large impact on their appearances. Did it affect their careers? Or perhaps their relationships with other-"BEEP!"
I yelp and suddenly wiggle out of Best Jeanist's arms, catching him completely off guard, and jump down onto the wet, frosted sidewalk. I don't waste any time in escaping the sudden high-pitched sound as I quickly bolt underneath the closest car. I whimper quietly to myself as I tuck my tail around myself, my paws soaking themselves in the car oil beneath me as I crouch down against the concrete.
"Where did you run off to now?" I hear Best Jeanist mumble groaning quietly to no one in particular. I quickly look around and almost immediately spot the man's feet amongst other civilians only a few feet away "I promise that I won't hurt you" he assures as he spots my tail from the sidewalk. I watch him approach before he bends down to peek under the car. My bright yellow eyes lock onto his green ones, and I can only hope that I don't look as frightened as I feel. I was braver than this. I had survived worse than an unfamiliar city.
After a moment of hesitation, he once again pulls me into his arms only this time I don't resist. I instead opt for pressing my ears flat against my head, resting my nose against his jacket, hiding from the smells, and the noises.Once we arrive at a slick black car Best Jeanist politely asks me to transform back. This time I listen, shifting back into my skin, my head hung in defeat. He looks at me quietly, opening his mouth to speak, only to close it again before shutting my door.
The commute was short, and silent, with my time spent staring out of the window in quiet reflection. It was hard to fathom the turn that my day had taken. What my foolish selfish actions had cost me.
When the car pulled to a steady stop, I found myself in front of a large building that vaguely resembled the letter H. The building seemed heavily fortified, with large walls of stone surrounding the land. The building was clearly labeled with the letters UA, with an extremely happy-looking bear-mouse creature standing before the archway, as if awaiting our arrival. I sink deeper into my seat if that were even possible. What was this place? Why am I here?
The door beside me opened swiftly as the car came to a complete stop, the humanoid mouse appearing before me with a vacant smile gracing his simple features."Hello, Okami Hitsune. My name is Principal Nezu, as you could probably assume by my name I am the principal here at UA High" My ears flick themselves to where he stands, my eyes following shortly after. I put on the friendliest smile I could muster given the cold sharp fear that shot up my spine as I beheld the school before me.
"Hello, Sir," I say, rising from the car on shaky legs. Best Jeanist round the car shortly after, watching the interaction with observant eyes.
Shortly after meeting him, Principal Nezu walked us through the bright windowed halls of the school, and eventually, into his office. The room is small, but large enough for us all and others to fit. It has two couches with a table between them on one side, and a small desk with a large amount of paperwork on the other. I sit on one of the couches only when Principal Nezu gestures for me to do so. Principal Nezu follows suit and claims the other opposite me while Best Jeanist remains standing to the right of the table between us.
