Chapter 6
Diana's POV
"Hi, My name is Elton!"
"H-hi, I'm Diana" I say quietly and sit down in front of him. The two chairs that are in Mrs.Clifford's office are facing each other. She never lets anyone behind her desk. Everyone has always wondered why but, we've never gotten an answer. She always just says that its none of our business and that we've just given ourselves another chore.
"What are some things you enjoy doing Diana?" He says breaking the silence
"Well, I..uh... I don't know really." I say looking down at my white socks
"that was a bit of a weird question wasn't it" he says with a deep but funny chuckle.
"What do mean?" I say tilting my head a little
"Well I don't know the answer to that question. Like if someone asked me that I wouldn't know what to tell them. Especially someone I don't know." He says with a comforting smile. I smile back and then look at my socks again.
" I guess I like going to target and I like reading too. What else...tv is good but it gets a bit confusing at times." I say feeling a little more comfortable
"What's confusing about it?" He says chuckling again
" Like the show the Batchelor why does anyone find women wanting to be with a complete stranger entertaining?! Its just...ITS JUST not!" I say looking at the wall
He's looking at me odd. Maybe he's mad I yelled.
"Sorry I raised my voice." I say looking at him.
He busts out laughing really hard. I giggle seeing him laughing so hard!
"I'm sorry,I'm sorry!" He says through laughter
"It's okay!" I giggle
"So how old are you Diana?" He says calming down
"I'm 15!" I say with a smile "How old are you?"
"I'm 28" he says smiling back at me.
"Do you like pets?"
"I've never had any pets but, I've always kinda wanted one! Sometimes I try to pet animals in parking lot usually they either run away or they bite me."
"Oh!" He says laughing "well I have a dog and two of my roommates have pets."
"What's you dogs name?" I ask
"My dogs name is circa and my roommates one of them has a dog named buddy and one of them has a dog named Navi."
"Do they bite of you try to pet them?"
"No!"He chuckles
He starts to ask another question but is interrupted by Mrs.Clifford knocking on the door then opening it "Diana go up to your room sweetie."
"Yes,Mrs.Clifford!" I say and walk out
He was nice! I liked him! Imagine how cool it would be to live with him! No,no Diana don't get your hopes up. You ALWAYS just get hurt. I walk in my room to see Lucy pulling her suitcase.
"Whatcha doin? I ask
"Well the interview went so well I thought I should go ahead and pack so I don't have to later!" She says with a smile. I say oh and walk to my bed. My interview didn't go that well. I knew I shouldn't of gotten excited.
———————Elton's POV———————————
"So Mr.Castee if you have any further questions or concerns you can call this number." She says as she slides me a business card
"Thank you Mrs.Carter I-"
"I told you call me Jane" she says abruptly
"Well Jane I do have a question."
"Yes?" She says and nods her head telling me to continue
"What all does it take to actually adopt?"
"We would have to do a background check, someone would come to you're house make sure it's a safe place for a child. Nothing too serious we will handle it as it comes though. were you considering adopting one of these girls?"
"Uh well yeah." I say with a little nervous laugh
"Would you like another appointment with one of the girls?"
"What would that involve exactly?"
"Well it's like an interview but you just focus more on her you don't talk to the other children just the one you're considering adopting and it doesn't have to be in the office."
"Uh yeah can you do next Wednesday?"
"Yes we can and who for?"
"Diana."
"Well no offense Mr.Castee but I don't think she's what you're looking for she's quite the bit of trouble. why not Lucy she's just a sweet heart very honest and trust worthy!"
" Diana's Fine." I say awkward and quickly
"Are you sure?" She says raising an eyebrow
"Um y-yes ma'am" I stutter a little out of shock that she would talk about a child like this
"Okay if you say so and I will see you Wednesday at 2 o'clock." She says while writing it on her calendar
"Thank you." I say more blunt and rude than I meant to I was just ready to get out of here. Not because of any of the children well mostly. That one girl was a little weird and angry but that women just something about her bothers me.
She says no problem and I leave the very gloomy looking orphanage. Alright now I need to go get food from the store quickly. I told everybody that's where I was going. It was a bad lie but I wasn't expecting anyone to ask me where I was going. I could've told the truth but I want to tell them in a better way then that.
