Chapter 5: Stairs

"Run!" Gabriel shouted. Like usual I pushed Max ahead of me. We all ran as fast as we could until we made it to the main cabin.

"Was that an alien?" Dariush asked while looking back.

"No, it was bird. Of course it was." Max shouted at him. I guess he got my sarcasm.

"Run!" Gabriel shouted. The pain in my ankle was getting worse. I knew that the best way to make it better was to rest it but I couldn't.

"Keep going, come on! Let's go!" Dariush shouted. We ran by the entrance and noticed Alex wasn't here. I gasped in pain.

"Are you okay?" Gabriel asked me.

"Yeah, It's just a sprained ankle." I answered. I saw that Gabriel ran off the decking, I'm guessing he went to get Alex. Once he returned we all ran inside to escape this thing.

"Hey, Wait! Wait, how big was it? Was it, like, puppy-size? 'Cause maybe it just wants to cuddle." Dariush said before he was cut off by the sound of snarling. I turned to Max quickly.

"If something happens go with ZhenZhen, okay?" I told him. He just nodded quickly. I knew he would because I would only let people I trust look after him. Yes he may have been 2 years younger than me but he still needed looking after.

"Hell, no! We have to go!" Dariush told us. Alex was just yelling. I was trying to run but my ankle didn't agree with me, so I had to hobble and run at the same time. We ran into the kitchen and hid. I was with ZhenZhen and Gabriel but I had no idea where Max was. I covered my mouth with my hand so I wouldn't make any noise. I heard the door open again.

"Alex, Max, come here." Gabriel whispered to them. Alex and Max ran over to us, Max sat In between me and ZhenZhen while Alex sat next to Gabriel. "Dariush. Come here. Dariush. Come here." Gabriel kept repeating but it was too late. The door opened with a bang.

"Fuck!" I whispered under my breath. I could hear the snarling starting. I felt like we were in that scene from Jurassic Park where the two kids were in the kitchen hiding from the Raptors. I put my other hand over Max's mouth because I knew he would scream. I watched as it turned to face where we were but it was too slow we had already gone. I made Max stick with ZhenZhen while I went in the opposite direction and hid with Gabriel. I put my hand back over my mouth and shut my eyes trying to think of good memories but it was hard to. I heard a clattering from behind where we were. It was followed by snarling and the sound of Dariush screaming. We all got up and ran.

"Help me, help me! I'm coming!" Dariush shouted panicked. We all screamed as it ran towards us. When it jumped it I ducked down while the others moved over to the side. Instead of jumping on one of us it jumped down the garbage disposal. ZhenZhen locked it up so it wouldn't be able to leave. We could hear loud banging as we all stood up. We all ran until we heard more snarling. We ran to the other side of the room and opened the window to leave. We all crouched and ran. I walked around the corner and heard Alex screaming. We ran down the stairs, which hurt like a bitch for me, the sound of wood smashing coming from behind us. I heard some kind of roaring coming from behind me but I didn't stop to look. Unfortunately I was stuck with Dariush and Gabriel. We crawled under a set of wooden stairs. I knew Max was safe because he was with Alex and ZhenZhen.

"What are you doing?" Dariush asked him.

"Come on." Gabriel said to us. I crawled in after Gabriel. We sat up against the wall. I had my hand pressed to my mouth like before. I watched as Alex, ZhenZhen and Max ran to the outhouse. "Where is it?" Gabriel asked Dariush. I was still trying to figure out how long it was going take for Conrad to wake up and realize what was happening. I saw a paw, claw, foot or whatever you want to call it go on the first step. I wanted to scream but I couldn't because then we would be found. I watched as it climbed the stairs and stand on the surface above us.

"Oh, shit!" Dariush whispered as the wood above us was cracking. Dariush was about to whisper something else but Gabriel covered Dariush mouth with his hand.

"Stop talking. Shh." Gabriel whispered to Dariush. The creature snarled as the wood continued to crack. Luckily for us it had left where we were. The worse thing was, it was heading to where the others were.

"Oh my God, no Max. We have to do something." I whispered to them. I knew it was too dangerous but we had to do something.

"Y/N it's not safe." Gabriel told me.

"I made a promise to my mom that I wouldn't let anything happen to him. I have to go." I said. I felt my eyes tear up. I watched as the creature walked towards where they were.

"We gotta go. We gotta go." Gabriel told us all of a sudden.

"Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Why are we leaving? This an alien-proof hiding spot." Dariush said. I guess he didn't understand the purpose of we're going to die anyway.

"We have to help them." Gabriel said finally agreeing with me.

"And die too? No thanks!" Dariush told us being selfish.

"Just go! Go!" Gabriel told him. Gabriel pushed past me and Dariush, and left. I crawled out after him with Dariush following behind. I could hear metal rattling coming from the main cabin.

"Aw, hell, naw, man!" Dariush said as we looked up. The dog like thing had crawled out the chimney system.

"Go, go, go. Go!" Dariush shouted. I tried my best to run as I possibly could without causing me pain. But at least it wasn't the worst pain I had experienced. We ran all the way to the capsule and got inside of it. I jumped inside and caused myself more pain but I didn't care, at least I can't die from my injury like I could've before.

"Get the door! Get the door!" Gabriel shouted at Dariush. Dariush ran to get the door but then I heard him scream. "Come on, get in here!" Gabriel shouted.

"I forgot the door!" Dariush shouted at us. Once he got in he reached his arm over the side and picked up the door shutting us in just in Time. The creature was stood outside trying to get in. Of course Dariush screamed but there really wasn't a change their.

"This is how we die!" I shouted. "I escaped death once and I doubt I'm going to escape it again." I added. I brung my knees up to my chest and rested my arms on them and placed my head on my arms. I knew that this was the end. I knew that I had to protect Max from anything but I couldn't do it anymore.
