"Citadel, identify yourself. What is your name, ma'am? Over!" The man asked us.

"I'm Alex." He said introducing himself to the man we were talking to.

"How old are you?" We were asked.

"I'm thirteen." Alex responded. "And if you don't mind me asking, who are we talking to?" Alex asked him.

"This is General George Khoury at Cheyenne Mountain. Is anyone alive at JPL? Is Dr. Fielding there?" He asked us after he introduced himself to us.

"There are six of us, everyone else is dead. The astronaut sent us, before she died." Alex explained to him.

"You were sent by Major Collins?" The General asked us surprised.

"Yeah, that's why we came." Gabriel told him.

"She gave us the key and said something about Excalibur." Alex said while holding up the key.

"What, you have the crypto-key in your possession?" He asked us surprised.

"That's right. What do we need to do to get it to work?" Alex asked. The General sighed.

"Nothing. You need to get out of there. I'm...I'm sorry. It's over. There's nothing you kids can do against this thing." The General explained to us. I ran my hand through my hair. They had be some kind of way. I quickly tied my hair into a ponytail. "Now get out of there immediately, we're sending three units to pick you- -" The General added before Alex cut him off.

"No." Alex simply said.

"What did you say, son?" The General asked as if he didn't hear Alex correctly.

"I said no. I made a promise I wouldn't let anything stop me. So I'm gonna keep trying and it will be a lot easier if you would help me. We didn't come all this way to give up now. We're done being told what we can and can't do. We made it across half of Southern California. Past aliens and soldiers." Alex explained to him.

"A diddler! Don't forget about the diddler." Dariush added before Alex continued.

"All the way here. Nobody helped us get here. All we had was each other. So you're gonna listen to me, because we're not kids anymore, and we're the best chance you've got. I'm going to ask you one more time, General. What do we need to do to get this thing working?" Alex continued. The General couldn't do anything about us now. We were staying and helping to save this world.

"All right, someone needs to go down to the basement and fire up the emergency generators. Start them in sequence, exactly four seconds apart. Send your fastest, strongest- -" The General started before ZhenZhen and Max cut him off.

"I'll do it!" They both said.

"I'm sorry, that sounded like a young girl and a young boy." The General said.

"Oh, Yeah! Aliens don't stand a chance against her. Same thing goes for him as well." Dariush told him.

"All right! You need to climb through the vent. The vault door won't open until the power is back on." The General explained to Max and ZhenZhen.

"We got it." ZhenZhen said to him.

"Look...You're not safe at JPL." The General said. I swallowed a hard lump that I didn't even know was in my throat. I quickly pulled Max into a hug.

"I love you." I said to him.

"I love you too, you're the best big sister I could've ever asked for." Max told me as he hugged me back.

"Your the best little brother I could've asked for." I told him. We parted away from each other. "Remember the four seconds thing." I told him.

"I will." He told me. I rummaged through my bag and found picture of both of us. Mom was in the background. I handed it to him.

"Take this." I told him. "I want you to have it." I said to him.

"Why are you giving this to me?" He asked.

"Because if I don't make it. You'll remember me by this picture." I said to him. I knew I was going to cry but I held my tears in. I quickly kissed his forehead before him and ZhenZhen left. I walked over to Gabriel and gave him my hand. He took it.

"What are we doing? What is Excalibur?" Gabriel asked.

"Excalibur was a Cold War defence project. It was meant to shoot down Russian missiles." The General responded.

"Yeah, using fusion pumped X-ray lasers, I read about that." Alex said sounding like a nerd.

"Never mind him. He knows everything. Keep going." Dariush said.

"The key that Major Collins gave you contains the coordinates of the alien mothership in high orbit." The General explained.

"We can destroy the mothership." Gabriel told him.

"You're our last hope." Khoury told us.

"Okay, what else do we need to do to get this shit started?" Dariush asked.

"You need to realign the satellite dish on the roof, then get a working computer and load the coordinates Major Collins gave you. Then activate Excalibur." Khoury told us.

"All right, I'll go to the roof." Gabriel said.

"No, Gabriel." Alex said stopping him. "You guys load the programs. Me and Y/N are gonna go to the roof. Plus you're hurt and he's the only one keeping you alive." Alex said. I nodded in agreement.

"What are you talking about you're afraid of heights!" Dariush said as if Alex was crazy.

"I'm scared of everything." Alex told Dariush.

"It's my turn." Alex told Dariush. I felt Gabriel pull me to the side.

"What's up?" I asked him.

"I don't want you to go to the roof." He said to me.

"Gabriel, I have to. It's the only chance we have." I said to him.

"I don't want you to leave. Let me go instead." He said to me.

"What and have you die?" I asked him.

"At least it wouldn't be you." He said to me.

"But if I go and I never come back I wanna do this first." I said to him. I pulled him in for a quick kiss to my surprise he kissed back. "I'm sorry I shouldn't have done that." I said to him. He kissed me again.

"I don't care that we haven't known each other for that long but I love you. Ever since I saw you for the first time yesterday I felt something for you and I didn't realise it until now." He told me.

"I love you too." I told him. "If we do this and we don't die, I have a prom coming up. Do you wanna be my date? I know it should be the other way around but I don't care." I told him with a smile on my face.

"Of course, I'll be your date." He said to me with a smile.

"Tell ZhenZhen I'm gonna want my watch back." I heard Alex say. He signalled for me to follow him and I did. "And if I die...tell her I love her." Alex said while stopping. "Actually, Wait...don't tell her I love her, just tell her I was into her." He said while stopping again. I quickly ran over to Gabriel and gave him a quick kiss on the lips.

"I love you." I told him quickly.

"I love you too." He said back to me. I ran back over to Alex. This could kill us but at least I would die happy.
