Lacey's P.O.V.
Daray moved up from the desk chair and took a silent step towards me. I crouched into an animal-like position with my back pressed up against the wall. I let out a growl. My mouth gaped open in surprise. Why did I just growl? People don’t just growl at someone. Then I looked down at myself. I was chalk-white. What happened to tan skin?
“What did you do to me?” I asked, looking down at my hands, horrified. My voice sounded like a music box.
“In the car I bit you.” He said, making my head snap back up.
“You bit me?” I asked, incredibly. “Humans don’t bite.” Laughter erupted from below along with Daray’s small chuckle. Even his laugh sounded mean.
“I’m not human. You’re not human. None of us here are human.” Daray said, taking another step towards me. I pressed my back further into the wall. “When I bit you, my venom, turned you into a vampire.”
“No, no.” I whispered, silently but Daray heard me.
“Hear. I have something that might convince you otherwise.” Daray said, walking over to me. He was pulling up his the sleeve of his blue button up shirt, exposing his pale forearm. He graced one finger down his arm. It was such a simple, elegant movement, that I didn’t expect blood to be trickling out. I didn’t have time to be puzzled by the outcome because the scent hit me like a tractor trailer. It smelled delicious and my mouth instantly filled with this bitter tasting substance. The burn that was aching now raged inside my mouth. I had to soothe it and now! His blood was going to soothe my pain.
“You can have it.” He said, encouragingly. The words barely slipped out of his mouth before I hungrily bit down on his stone-hard arm. A soft, sweet moan came from my lips. I heard him chuckle but I didn’t care. His blood was so amazing. It spilled into my mouth, ready to be drunk up my hungry lips. Not enough drops fell into my mouth. I had to have more but he pulled away. His cut instantly healed as if it had never been there in the first place. I looked up at him, angry while a foul substance stung my mouth. I almost gagged but I held my stare.
“I’ll take you hunting after you meet the coven.” He reassured me. Hunting? I didn’t hunt. I was human. Wait, was I? No, I couldn’t be. I just drank blood from a supposed vampire. That was definitely not normal or human. What if he was right, I was a vampire? Was I forever banished to the shadows, drinking blood from helpless victims? I couldn’t kill people. No matter what small part of me found that appealing. Maybe, we drank from something else. I doubted it but for my humanity’s sake, I hoped I was right.
“Hunting?” I asked, sheepishly.
“Yes, we vampires, hunt for their blood. We get it from humans.” Daray said, almost bored. I half expected him to yawn.
“You mean we kill them?” I asked.
“How else do you think we get the blood?” Daray said, with an evil laugh. Chills ran through my spine at the sound of his twisted laugh. He took a step closer to me and I felt my lip curl over an oddly sharpened tooth.
“Now, now there is no reason to be like that.” Daray gritted through his teeth. I didn’t trust him. Not one bit. Everything nerve was on high alert around him. His every word and movement sent clear signs of danger to my mind. I didn’t care about the fact that he was speaking the truth because I knew it wouldn’t last for long. Make him trust you. The thought floated through my head. I relaxed my muscles and my lips fell over my teeth.
“I’m sorry.” I whispered, barely able to form the words. He seemed to buy what I was selling.
“Good. I think you should meet your coven now.” Daray said, gladly. He held out a pale hand. I stared at him for a minute before taking his hand. He pulled me up off the bed with ease.
