Meo P.O.V.
I was in the darkened living room, watching the news. That was our routine now. The news was one of our sources to track Daray’s coven. Charlie and Morgan were watching the news with me. Charlie had long blonde hair and crystal blue eyes. He was my best friend and has been for seventy five years. Morgan had long black hair and dark brown eyes. She was part Indian.
The news came back on.
“This just in. Lacey Marie Coleman was abducted last night between six and seven o’clock in the St. Louis area.” The wind was knocked out of me. I looked at the beautiful girl’s picture and knew that she was already what we have been trying to prevent.
“Tyler was supposed to be watching her.” Morgan said, worried. Her usually calm brown eyes were now panicking. Charlie was already on the phone. I grabbed Morgan’s hand and gave it a comforting squeeze. She was like my sister. Tyler was her boyfriend of ten years.
“Tyler, are you okay?” Charlie asked, sounding slightly relieved.
“What happened?” asked Morgan, impatiently. Charlie put Tyler on speaker to appease Morgan.
“Lacey got lost from her friends, Megan and Tommy. I stayed as far away as I could without losing her. She kept walking around like she was looking for something.” Tyler gasped for breath. He sounded really hurt. Morgan started pacing at the sound of his gasp. “Lacey went into a couple of places. Then I smelt Daray’s scent near a Chinese restaurant. I started to look for him.” Another gasp. “When his trail led me to an alley, Ginger attacked me. Nothing is broken, I think. I just have a huge gash in my shoulder. I’m so sorry guys. I tried so hard.” Tyler’s voice sounded thick with guilt.
“Don’t worry, Tyler. We’ll get her back. No one blames you or is mad at you.” Charlie said, pulling out his big brother quality now.
“Yes.” Tyler said, unsurely but the others didn’t recognize that.
“Good. Where are you?” Morgan said, taking the phone from Charlie.
“I’m in the woods near the highway. It was as far as I could get.” Tyler said, shamefully.
“See you very soon.” Charlie said and then flipped the phone shut. Turning to me, Charlie ordered, “Meo, go find Travis and Shawn. Tell them everything. We’ll be back as soon as possible.”
“Will do. Be careful, guys.” I told them. They both agreed and left. I heard the garage door open and the sound of the jeep’s wheels screeching out the driveway. I hurried out the door, taking note of the cold, Iowa air but not feeling it. Snow was covering the paths to all the other cabins. The cabins were wooden, two bedroom little houses. All of us had one we shared with one or two other vampires. Mine I shared with Morgan and Tyler. The sun was about ready to start coming up but I wasn’t worried. The trees above were covering us enough to not let out harmful amounts of sun rays.
I ran to Shawn and Travis’ cabin. Theirs was the biggest because they were the leaders of our coven and it was the place where we all met up at for times like these. We all just called it The Cabin. I gave a crisp, knock before entering. Shawn was lying on the couch, flipping through a magazine and Travis was reading. They were brothers, both with matching black hair and brown eyes.
“What’s going on, Meo?” Travis said, putting his book down on his lap.
“Daray has Lacey.” They both looked up now.
“How long has he had her?” Travis asked, getting up.
“Since last night between six and seven.” I said. They both know what that meant.
