Silvermoon licked her kits softly. Their kits squirming and squealing. She felt an enormous bout of pride fill her. Cloudtuft pressed close to her, and she smiled back at him. They had already named the kits, four lovely balls of fur. Most of them looked like her, but she could see Cloudtuft in all of them.
Sweetpaw brought her a rabbit, carrying it proudly. Hollyeyes followed her, purring happily. "We caught this for you!" The ginger tabby purred. Silvermoon beamed. "Have any of them done anything yet?" Sweetpaw asked as Hollyeyes groomed Silvermoon. "Graykit meowed so loud, it woke up Mosscloud instantly!" She replied. Mosscloud nodded, stretching. "He'll be a real charmer." The gray queen purred. "They mostly sleep and eat. Cloudtuft agreed, once they are weaned, we'll take turns spending days in the nursery." Silvermoon meowed. Hollyeyes purred softly. "Come on Sweetpaw, we can't spend all day in here. You have to take care of Smalltail and Lilystorm." Her mother mewed. "Bye Silvermoon! Tell the kits I said hi!" Sweetpaw called as she was hustled out. Silvermoon knew the she-cat was still mourning her family.. She lost two family members in one day..
Branchstalk padded in, and Silvermoon gave him a nod. "How are you feeling?" They both asked. She snickered slightly. "I'm okay.. I.. I feel bad for Sweetpaw.. A part of me feels like its my fault for Whitepaw's death.." She murmured. The kits at her belly stayed close to each other as they nursed. "It's no cats fault except Redsnow and Blackfeather.. They were exiled this morning." Branchstalk replied, resting his head on Silvermoon's. "It's going to be nice to have more kin.." He added quietly. "Maybe one of them will be a medicine cat.." She purred. Silvermoon glanced at Branchstalk. He was looking at Dawnpaw and Cricketpaw pad sadly into camp with nothing. Their mentors looked worried. "Branchstalk.. Shinefire would want you to care for them.." Silvermoon murmured softly, touching her ear to his. "Go.. comfort them.. you share their pain.." She urged. She saw his ears twitch. Than he got up and started padding towards them.
Once her kits had opened their eyes, Silvermoon was ecstatic. Right now, they all had pale blue eyes, but they'd change soon enough. Moonkit was the exception. She hadn't opened her eyes yet, but she was close. Graykit stumbled towards Sparrowkit and fell over atop him. Silvermoon chuckled, grabbing Graykit gently and placing him down. Spottedkit had been practicing "walking." The walking was her crawling. "Look at our kits.. it's been half a moon already, can you believe it?" Cloudtuft asked, a proud image on his face. "I know.. they're so sweet." She murmured. Silvermoon licked Moonkit softly, grooming in between her ears, and between her toes. Kits got dirty quick. "She's opening her eyes!" Cloudtuft gasped. Silvermoon looked at Moonkit, her eyes her droopy, but open. She looked to Cloudtuft, pride surging through her.
"I'll take care of them until they get hungry Silvermoon." Mosscloud purred. She nodded. "Thank you Mosscloud. I need to stretch my legs." Silvermoon meowed. As she walked out of the nursery, Silvermoon breathed in the fresh air. "Hey Silvermoon!" Snow-whisker called. "Hello." She replied, dipping her head. "Has Multistar chosen a new deputy yet?" Silvermoon asked. She'd been so busy with the kits, she had't noticed. Snow-whisker nodded. "Tumbleweed." He said. Of course. Silvermoon glared at the black deputy, as he barked orders. "Tonight is a Gathering. I think we'll bring.. Small-eye, Cricketpaw, Dawnpaw, Hollyeyes, Leafpaw, Branchstalk, and Cloudtuft." Tumbleweed meowed. Multistar padded out from his den and nodded. "I agree." He mewed.
Silvermoon watched from the nursery as her mate left with the chosen cats. She curled her tail over the kits and pulled them close. The Clan was silent. The night was falling. As she was about to close her eyes, she saw fiery pelt enter the nursery. "So I'll just.. stay here..?" Fireshine whispered, her voice sounded dreary and sad. Everyone missed Shinefire. Silvermoon pretended to sleep. She was sad for her fallen clan-mates, but her kits kept her happier than every other cat. "Yup, I'll have Branchstalk check you out when he comes back. He'll be glad to know you're expecting, but he won't be happy about who the father is.." Lilacpaw murmured. "It'd be less shameful if you said the father was a kittypet!" The apprentice replied loudly. "Shh!" The ginger she-cat hushed. "I'll.. I'll ask is Blazefur will cover as the father.. maybe he would. We've been good friends for awhile." Lilacpaw snorted. "Him and Duskfoot are getting close. I wouldn't think he'd ruin a possible relationship." She mumbled. Fireshine sighed. Silvermoon guessed she took Pebbleheart's nest while Pebbleheart's nest. Windpaw and Mousepaw were apprenticed to Cloudtuft and Tumbleweed. She noticed the cats were getting a bit thinner, ribs were sticking out.. The heat started coming back.. AlderClan had too many apprentices.. and Silvermoon would be adding onto that. But her kits would make AlderClan strong, stronger. AlderClan wasn't weak.. was it..?
