It was soon found out before long, that Ember was really not Ember at all. She had been kidnapped and held captive the entire time. Her captor had some how shape shifted and took over her identity to trick and woo the archangel into bearing her a child. Her master plan of having a highly powerful child to rule over some kingdom she was fighting for as well as to destroy Gabriel in the process. They wanted to take control of the archangel somehow, and this was their way of doing so.
Once they found this out however, Jaylissa, Nilsa, and Gabriel worked together to lock down and destroy the captor shapeshifter and locate Ember. They quickly brought her home to the bunker, the real Ember this time.
She really did have a soul and the human emotions she was feeling were still very new to her. It took her some time to learn who everyone was once again as her memory had been wiped clean from her captors shortly after she arrived at the bunker the first time.
