I stood there stunned, no clue what had just happened. My feet felt glued to the floor. Literally, fucking glued in place. The rest of my body could move fine, my hands, arms, legs, knees, elbows, everything was fine but I couldn't, no matter how hard I struggled, move my feet from where they stood. I knew she was going to try and get back as quickly as possible, probably pack her bags and leave before I even had a chance to get through the gates. According to the newspaper articles I had read

As the sun started falling behind the trees, the feeling of unease in my chest started to grow more intense, a vague sense of panic started to set in, but before I started to really freak out I slowly felt myself move. It was strange, as if the concrete was being slowly peeled away from the bottom of my shoes. After a moment of stretching out I checked my watch (it hadn't been nearly as long as it felt like) and I sprinted out through the gates. I needed to get to her. She was the first real lead I had had in a year. I ran down the road, saw the bus had just left and I didn't have a phone with me to call a taxi so I did what I had to. I pulled my hood over my head, turned a corner and smashed a car window in with my shoe. It didn't take me long to hot-wire it (It wasn't my first time) and I sped off, praying silently that I would make it in time.

I parked the car a while away from the motel and ran the rest of the way. I suspected the woman might be back already so I decided to climb up the drainpipe behind the back of the building, into her room through the bathroom window. The lights were off. Her pyjamas and an unopened bottle of vodka sat on her bed. I had made it in time. I waited just over 5 minutes until I heard heavy, rushed footsteps in the hallway and I looked through the hole in the door, confirming it was her. I stood back and took a deep breath. The sound of keys jingling. A sigh of relief from the other side of the door. Slowly the door swung open, away from me, I pulled my arm back and swung it forward with force until I felt it make contact with the side of her head. I dashed forward and caught her in my arms as the blonde woman crumpled to the ground, her mouth stretched out as if she had intended to scream but the sound had died on her lips.
