Silence

Chapter One

My new day at school goes just like every other day, stares and avoidance, all due to my special eyes. But I do notice one boy in particular, that always stares and smiles at me. I don't know his name, but there is something, his eyes, they are like mine, two-toned brown and orange.

The week goes slow with boring classes, what concerns me more is that I don't get many people talking to me, just the odd 'Hello' 'How are you?' 'What's your name?' 'Where are you from?' And then they go. But the last school day of the week was especially odd, because in my English class, all of a sudden I couldn't hear anyone or anything anymore but I could see their lips moving, talking, and laughter, but couldn't hear a thing.

This absolutely freaks me out and I decide to quickly run out of the class, rushing to the first aid station. But on the way, my thoughts are mess, I turn around because I don't want to tell the nurse that I've suddenly gone deaf and have more people think I'm weird.

Instead I go to my car and drive home, in my Honda Civic in glossy black. I close the door of my apartment behind me and drop the keys on the old side table and head to the bedroom to lie down. Maybe, maybe it'll be better with some rest. And as I walk to my bedroom I didn't even notice Stan looking up at me and meowing, welcoming me home.

When I wake up, I note the late time and notices movements in my moonlight lit room, from the corner of my eyes. The movement I saw suddenly was right in front of me. I screamed and jumped up from the bed and ran for the door, but the shadow suddenly lunged, grabbing me by the waist and pinning me back to the bed.

I turn to face the shadow of a person to get a good look, and suddenly I recognize those peculiar brown, orange eyes, as the boy from school. I didn't even know his name, but found myself somewhere in my head wishing that I did.

I noticed myself staring when the boy suddenly said "do you know just what you are?" What I am? Just what the hell is he on about? I responded, but not with what he wanted to hear, instead I assaulted him with many questions of my own. "How did you get in here? Who are you? What do you want of me?" and I tried to escape, desperately trying to wriggle my way around his grip on me.

He tightened his hold in response to this to the point where it began to hurt. "My name is Rusty, and I'm here because of you, and you, you will need me".

If that was supposed to calm me down, it failed. It only made me more scared and I started to panic a little. Thank god I didn't bother changing my clothes when I went to bed! I had no clue what he was talking about maybe he just lost his marbles?

He then started talking once more "I know you are very confused, but you will understand in time, and then you will trust me" That's it I thought, he's mad... Wait just a minute, Oh my god I yelled out, I can actually hear you talking! My hearing is back!

Rusty tensed and let go off my waist to shake me by my shoulders, which hurt as he diged in his nails deep into my skin.

"What did you just say?!"

All thought of this weird boy lying on top of me, forgotten I replied " I lost my hearing earlier today during class, and couldn't hear a thing anymore, that's why I rushed out of class and went home to lie down, I was so tired all of a sudden"

Rusty responded, shock written all over his face and said "That explains why I saw you run, but, you really couldn't hear anything at all? Has this happened before?"

"Yes, it scared me so much so I had to get out of there" ... It took a second before I registered even the second question" Happened before? What? No." I looked up at his face and saw many emotions warring over his features, denial, shock, fear, and then slowly reason. My mind wandered off wondering about his eyes, so like mine, but not, brown and orange, maybe that's why his name is Rusty? Whatever went through his mind, he sighed it away. He said "I think I know what's happening to you, and I must take you to Letitia, now"
