9th January, 2252.
Manhattan, New York.
3rd person POV"Sam, we're leaving. Time to get up honey."
Sam shot up instantly, expecting her father to walk into their room and see Eliza sleeping in her bed, and well, freak out. Then she remembered they'd locked the door. She sighed and looked at her twin sister, who was curled up right next to her.
"Sam? Are you up?"
"Yeah Dad, no worries." She said, getting out of the bed quietly as to not disturb Ruby.
"I'll see you at dinner. Have a good day at school." He said quietly, and walked away. She heard the front door close after.
Alright, house to ourselves. She walked over to Eliza, glancing at the alarm clock on the twins' dresser. 4:15 am. Plenty of time to get to school.
"Red. Get up." She said poking her in the ribs lightly.
"Poke me again, and I'll kill you." Eliza growled, halfheartedly.
"Yeah, yeah. What do you want for breakfast?"
Eliza pushed herself up and cracked her neck. "Depends on what you're making."
Sam rolled her eyes and walked over to the door. She raised her hand to unlock it and was surprised to see it unlock for itself. Her eyes widened and she pulled her hands away from the door. Eliza flashed her a weird look and opened the door.
"Hey, you feeling okay?"
"You didn't see that?" She asked. "You're telling me you honestly didn't see that." A mixture of emotions flashed on Eliza's face at once. Sam could only pick up on Fear, Concern, Sadness- all masked by assumed ignorance.
"Pfft. Don't tell me you're all mental now." Eliza said snickering and walking past Sam into the hallway.
As she walked past, Sam could've sworn she saw something flash in her friend's eyes. Power; lots of it. Sam felt herself shiver but not from fear, but almost as if she was drawn to it. No. She was just imaging things. Sam followed her, trying to forget she ever saw that. Eliza was already sitting on the kitchen counter, her legs crossed. She'd slept in the clothes Ruby as lent her. She cocked her head at Sam, who felt herself blush a bit under the gaze.
"So. What is Chef Valentine cooking for us breakfast?"
"Depends on what you want."
"Seriously?"
"Fine, we'll stick with the frigging cereal." She grumbled and grabbed two bowls from the cupboard, and the milk jug from the refrigerator before looking at a staring Eliza. "Can I help you?"
Eliza blushed and looked away from her, trying to play it off with a smile. "Nothing, nothing."
"Red, if you don't tell me what's wrong, I'm gonna shove this jug of milk right down your damn throat." Sam said, reaching for the box of Fruit Loops on top of the refrigerator.
Eliza sighed. "I was just thinking about how much I missed. I mean, I was asleep for years, right?"
"Correct."
"I can't help but wonder about my parents."
Sam felt sadness grip her heart for her friend. It must've been terrible, waking up after being in a coma for years and finding out that you were advanced in your growth from a child to a teenager. Add that to the fact that your parents were most likely-
"Do...Do you think they're alive?" She asked quietly. "Be honest with me."
Sam sighed and leaned against the counter, holding the box of Fruit Loops in her hand. She looked down at the floor, not sure how to answer, but she gave it her best shot. "...No."
