☹ Luke ☹
I awoke to my phone vibrating on my bed side table. Picking it up, it was Agatha calling me. "Morning," I said tiredly, as I stretched and propped myself up so I was now resting against my wall. It was 10, pretty early for her to be awake.
"Morning," she beamed. Her voice, over the phone, was almost as sweet sounding as it was in person. "Sorry, did I wake you?"
"No, I was awake beforehand," I lied. "Are you making tea?" I laughed, hearing the kettle being boiled.
"Yes, and what is so wrong about that?" She laughed along with me.
"Nothing, I just didn't have you down for a tea type of person," I admitted. "Anyway, what was it that you needed to call me for?" I put her on speaker as I got changed.
"I wondered if you wanted to go to the pier with me, today," I was supposed to ask her, I hadn't realised the pier fair rides were open yet. "The fair rides are open now, so they said every Saturday evening they'll light up the entire area on the pier," she seemed excited. "It's supposed to be beautiful."
"So, it's like a date?" I chuckled. She groaned and I heard her pour the water into a mug. "I'm kidding, can you help me pick out something to wear?" She agreed, as I switched her to facetime. "Okay, Nirvana or Green Day?" I asked her.
"You looked pretty cute in your Green Day top, but I prefer that one in your closet by the tie-dye one," she pointed. I walked to the clothes, pointing to the right of the top and she shook her head, so I pulled out the top from the left. "What band is it?"
"Misfits," I held it up. "And you've kindly picked out a vest," she clapped her hands. "I'm going to hang up and get changed, but I'll come round yours once I'm done," she nodded and waved. "Bye," I hung up as soon as she said goodbye, too.
I'd decided to bring a spare jacket with me, just incase Agatha got cold, and if it was too cold for me to give her mine. I'd gone round into her back garden, threw 3 rocks at her window before she opened it. She had her hair in a ponytail, a few loose strands to the side of her face. She gave me a thumbs up before closing her window, soon enough she appeared outside. I'd walked to the path, her dad was out, apparently, and it would've been fine for me to have knocked, but I wasn't taking any chances. We'd been walking for a while, and Agatha was constantly complaining about food.
"I'm so hungry, can we just pick a place, already?" She moaned. "I don't care if I have to eat squid or octopus, I'm just really hungry."
"There's an Italian restaurant over there?" I suggested. She nodded as we made our way over. "Have you got a table for two?" The waiter smiled at us and took two menus from the stand, guiding us to a table in the corner, near the back of the room.
"Do you have any ideas for drinks, to begin with?" He asked. I looked to Agatha who nodded at me.
"I'll have a lemonade," she said quietly.
"I'll have a coke," the waiter then went away with our drink order. "Honestly, I've never been to a restaurant without my mum," I admitted. She placed her elbows on the table.
"Neither," she laughed. "You do have enough money for this, don't you?" I nodded. My mum had given me money so I could take Agatha out, to a place like this, since she knew about her dad's doings. My mum felt like Agatha just needed to know that people cared about her, even though she didn't think anyone did. "I can't wait for the lights on the pier."
"Are you going to homecoming?" I changed the subject almost instantly. She shrugged, not seeming interested. "My mum always makes me go, even if I'm on my own, and she gets me this tux which always has problems," I groaned.
"What sort of problems?"
"Blazer being too small, trousers being too short, button missing off the shirt," she laughed, covering her mouth with her hand.
"Your fault for being so tall," she tried to stop herself from laughing.
"That's my mum and dad's fault, not mine," she nodded sarcastically at me. "Why aren't you sure if you're going?"
"Somehow, the girls there always make me insecure and worthless, no matter how beautiful I thought I looked before I went," she mumbled. "I'd always get asked, but the boy was always asked to, thought it was funny to stand me up, pranked me, ditched me for someone else, or just didn't acknowledge my existence."
"I wouldn't do that," I smiled. "I've never actually gone with anyone," I shrugged, taking her hand in mine.
"Trust me, you'd end up going off with one of the other girls, they always take away my dates," she weakly smiled.
"Your drinks," our waiter had returned and I removed my hands from Agatha's. "Food?"
"Pizza to share, please," I said and the waiter winked before walking off. "He's creepy."
"I know right," her eyes somehow glistened with the reflection of the lit candle. I'd only now realised how much of a beautiful colour Agatha's eyes really were. "Earth to Luke," she snapped her fingers.
"Sorry," after we'd eaten, Agatha somehow manipulated me into going shopping with her. She dragged me, literally, into every shop and every dressing room (well, not the actual one, but a guy can dream) as she tried on dresses, which I'd guessed were for homecoming. She felt unattractive in all of them, but, I'm going to be honest, I'd never thought she looked more beautiful. Although, when I admitted this all she did was slap my forearm and say "stop lying, you knob," the fact that she didn't even know it hurt.
It was now coming dark, and we were now making our way to the pier. I'd texted Jack and Ben, sending them a picture of the dress I'd loved on Agatha, and they knew exactly what to do. As we walked, I noticed that Agatha was shivering slightly, so I stopped the two of us from walking any further. I gave her the spare jacket, and she took it, then we carried on to the pier. The place was already becoming crowded, so we stood near to the back, but still had a pretty good view. The lights came on, and Agatha's face lit up. I had my arm draped around her shoulders, but I felt her remove it. Instead, she held my hand and intertwined our fingers together. She looked up at me, that genuine smile appearing on her face, and I returned the gesture back to her. I leant down to kiss her cheek,,but she gently shook her head and backed her face away from my lips. I nodded, and kissed the top of her head (gaining a face full of hair, due to the wind picking up) instead.
