Too Old For This

|Jay's POV|

Bey and I finally made it back to the house and the twins were cranky since it was past their nap time. Bey said she'd handle it while I dealt with dumb and dumber, but they can wait. As soon as we walked in the house, they were arguing back and forth.

"Shut up!"

Well that got their attention. They froze in their spots looking at me and I motioned to the couch for each of them to take a seat.

"I'm going to help your mother put the twins down for a nap. I don't know what petty shit you two started while we were gone, but it's done. Stay here until I get back."

"But dad I..." Blue tried to speak.

I shook my head and walked away. Bey was in the twins room rocking both of them in her arms. She smiled once she saw me and I took Rumi before taking a seat in the adjacent chair. We comfortably sat in silence until they were both sound asleep. They'd be out for a few hours.

"So what's going on with Blue and Jr.?" she asked.

"To be honest, I don't care."

She slapped my arm and started laughing.

"Jay..."

"I'll get to the bottom of it."

Heading back into the living room, they were on their phones. Really?

"Put that shit away. Let's get this over with. Jr., did you call your sister a bitch this morning?"

"Not directly," he mumbled.

"Eyes up! Did you or did you not?"

"Yes sir."

"Did you threaten to hit her?"

"Dad..."

"Does it look like I'm in the mood to even be having this discussion with almost 17 and 19 year olds. Just answer the damn question!"

"Yes sir."

I nodded accepting his response. Blue sat there with a smirk on her face. Let me shut that shit down.

"Blue did you go in your brothers room this morning?"

"Yes."

"And what was he doing?"

"He was sleep. So I poured water on him to wake him up."

"That's why I threatened to hit you. I said you were lucky I didn't punch you after what you did," Jr added.

I sat down on the couch exhausted by this conversation.

"Both of you are too old for this shit. So, this is how it's gonna be. Jr. don't ever let me hear you called any female, let alone your sister a bitch again. Blue, maybe I'll wake your ass up by dumping water on you."

"Daddy..."

"Stop. Both of you are to stay in your rooms for the rest of the day. I don't care if you made plans, had plans, it's dead. You're staying home. Since you decided to disturb me with this bullshit, your plans for the day are nonexistent."

"Um, I'm 18 and I had plans."

"You throw your age around as if it means something to me. I know how old you are and I said what I said. You're in your room for the day. End of discussion. Y'all continue this shit, I'll let your mother handle it. Now go!"

Blue rolled her eyes at me and went to her room first. I was waiting for her to slam her door. Wondering why she didn't, I saw Bey come into view. Jr. was still sitting there.

"Jr. what did I just tell you to do?"

"My bad dad. I just zoned out. I'll be upstairs."

He slowly moved out of the room, stopping to give Bey a kiss before he left.

"So what's the verdict?" she asked falling onto the couch next to me.

"They're to stay in their rooms the rest of the day."

She raised her brow at me.

"Yeah, right. We'll see how long that'll last."

"I'm serious, they want to act like 7 and 9 year olds instead of the decade older that they really are, that's what they get."

We ended up watching a movie and fell asleep. I heard noise on the monitor. I was about to get up when I heard singing. Looking closer I saw Blue holding Rumi. She then grabbed Sir and started to sing to both of them.

I wanna leave my footprints on the sands of time
Know there was something that and something that I left behind
When I leave this world I'll leave no regrets
Leave something to remember so they won't forget
I was here, I lived, I loved
I was here, I did, I've done everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know I was here

As she continued to sing, I was mesmerized. She was so focused on dancing, but her voice was beautiful. Bey had a strong, powerful voice and could sing anything. Blue was angelic. It was soft and subtle, but beautiful. I felt Bey shifting next to me. She looked up to me smiling as is stared at the monitor.

"She has a beautiful voice. Definitely not something she got from me."

Bey started to laugh.

"'Id have to agree. I wish she would sing more. She puts a twist to all my songs. Her acoustic renditions give me a run for my money and that says a lot."

We sat in silence letting Blue finish. Once she finished the twins were back asleep. I thought she'd jump up and leave, but she sat there. Look at us getting a day off.

The rest of the day went by fine. From dealing with childish teenagers to having quality time with Bey since Blue's kept the twins preoccupied, the day wasn't so bad after all.

Once everyone was sleep, I went down to my man cave. As I headed back to bed, I was just about to put the alarm on when I saw Jr. coming through the front door. I didn't move or say a word. He damn near jumped out of his skin when he saw me standing there.

"Where were you at?"

"Hey dad. I had to uh, handle something."

"When have you ever been allowed out this late."

He sucked his teeth before responding.

"Dad, it's not that serious. I'm back home, safe. Can I go to sleep now?"

"Let me get this straight. You sneak out the house and come back in here and expect me to be chill about it?"

He shrugged, "Pretty much."

That smart remark just pissed me off.

"You're officially grounded."

"Grounded? For how long?"

"Until I start getting answers from you and you start being truthful. The last time you did some shit like this, I ended up knocking you out and you told me you knocked a girl up. What is it this time?"

"Not that. Dad, it's nothing serious. I'd tell you if it was."

"You're still grounded, go to bed."

He knocked into me on his way up the stairs. I was right behind him and slapped him upside the head.

"You know what, I was gonna take your shit, but I'll just disconnect your phone instead. Enjoy the WiFi."

Getting in the bed next to Bey she moves and snuggled closer to me. At least one of us would get a good nights sleep.

To think I have to go through this again, at the same time.
