Y/N POV
When I got home after school, Rachel was on the couch with Ross reading from a textbook. Study date, again.
"Hey Ross, hey Ray," I waved to the both of them.
"Hey, y/n," Ross nodded in response and Rachel waved back.
I quickly spun around, went up the stairs, and headed straight for my room. I hated being a third wheel in their party. I dressed into some lounge wear and climbed into bed. I was exhausted, even though I hardly did anything during the day.
I look toward my rotary and see the cord was back in place. I sigh and check the time on the wall: 4:15 pm. My mom was just getting off of work, she was a nurse at the clinic across town. And my dad was picking up my little brother from school.
I drop my stuff on the floor and plop down on the bed. Just then I heard my phone ring beside me. I rolled over and picked it up.
"Hello, who is this?" I answered.
I heard some shuffling and breathing, I assumed it was Troy or James prank calling me again.
"Guys this isn't fu-" I stopped mid-sentence after what I heard next.
It was the same growling noise from yesterday. It was the monster.
I hung up immediately and went to grab my knife again from the dresser drawer. I dove under my blankets, burying myself in them and shutting my eyes tightly.
After five minutes of silence, the phone rang again. I peeked up from under the blankets and scanned the room for any sign of danger. After a moment, I hesitantly picked up the phone.
"Uh, h-hello?"
"Y/n? Is this y/n l/n?"
"Um, yes... may I ask who's calling?"
"Um, this is Dustin. Dustin Henderson... from school."
Dustin? I was getting a call from Dustin?
"Uh, y-yeah hi. W-where did you get this number?"
"Well, I um looked up your last name in the phone book. I, uh, called earlier, but I couldn't hear anything when you answered, then you hung up."
"Oh, um... yeah me neither," I replied, fiddling with the phone cord nervously. "So um, why are you calling again."
"Well, Mike wanted me to give you his address for Sunday."
"Um, okay. Wait, why couldn't Mike just call me himself?"
"Well he called me on our walkies and told me his sister Nancy is hogging the landline."
"Oh," I nodded as if he could see me. "Well, um thanks."
I wrote down Mike's address and talked with Dustin a little about how D&D works, so I wouldn't be totally lost. Soon we said goodbye and I hung up.
Today was a really weird day. First the guys acting all weird this morning, then at lunch with Mike and Will, and then just now with Dustin. Something was going on with them. I assumed it was the fact they never really hung out with other people, much less someone so "close" to Troy.
But I didn't want to focus on that.
Instead, I gazed longingly out the window and admired the scenery. I was raining, something I hadn't noticed until then. It rained hard and you could hear the water crashing down on the roof. I sighed as I lied back down, still staring outside. I closed my eyes and tuned out the rest off the world, listening to the harsh pitter patter of the rain. And with that, I drifted off into a deep sleep.
