Jungkook rubbed his eyes tiredly, opening his door. His brows knitted when he found Namjoon standing in the hall, fully dressed with his backpack fully loaded, strapped on one arm.
"Hyung," He called. Namjoon was going somewhere obviously.
"I'm going to Dad's place," Namjoon said. "My exams are done and we have two months off school and I'll be—"
Jungkook's eyes bulged in horror. "You're leaving me here?"
Was that the cause of the yellings the previous night? Their mother had been yelling at Namjoon, saying he was betraying her. Jungkook hadn't gotten the full gist of the quarrel. He had been used to his mother always accusing them of one thing or the other that he didn't deem it important to always know what exactly.
Namjoon moistened his lips. It was still dark —barely dawn— but he could almost see through Namjoon's indifferent expression. His brother was happy to be leaving the house.
Jungkook shook his head. "Please."
"She doesn't get to have us both all the time, Jungkook. He's our dad too," Namjoon explained.
"He left us, Hyung." Jungkook hated both his parents. But he hated his father more for leaving them with their mother when they had been kids.
"That's what she said. That's what she keeps saying. But, I don't believe her," Namjoon said defensively, shaking his head. "Not anymore."
Jungkook didn't care what Namjoon was saying. He didn't want to be left alone with her!
"Hyung—"
"I'll be back after the holidays. I told dad I was coming. As opposed to the lies she has continued to feed us, he actually misses us. He wants to see us."
Jungkook's eyes filled with tears. He shook his head and reached for Namjoon's arm. "Please, don't go, hyung."
"Jungkook, I wish I can stay. But mum keeps driving me crazy, okay? If I stay here one more day, I'll literally explode in her face. I'll do something horrible, something I'll regret. I just need to be away, far away from her."
"I want to come with you too. Please take me with you. Wait for me to pack then we'll go together." He began to pull Namjoon into his room. His heart raced like crazy. He was about to have a panic attack from how fast blood was pumping.
Namjoon, who was much stronger than Jungkook, stood his ground. He gradually pulled his arm from Jungkook's hold. He shook his head. "You know you can't come with me. You have school. Your exams are starting in a few weeks. After your exams, I'll come for you, okay?"
Jungkook shook his head. "It's not fair. Why do I have to stay here with her? Please don't leave me. After my exams, we'll go together."
"Sorry, Jungkook. But my mind is made up."
"Then leave!"
Jungkook swiveled to the side and found their mother standing outside her room, arms crossed. She had a hard glare on her face.
"Get out of my house," She said sternly. "Go to your father!"
Namjoon's eyes glistened. He looked angry, irritated.
"Hyung," Jungkook's voice shook.
"Get into your room, Jungkook!" She fired at Jungkook.
Namjoon didn't spare Jungkook a last glance. He held onto the strap of his backpack and stormed off, bounding down the stairs with heavy steps and eventually leaving the house, banging the door.
Jungkook retreated into his room, sobbing. If there was anything he was able to change in his life, he would change everything. His life was one big circle of mess. The moment things seemed to be looking good, life would swoop up with a huge fuck you and screw him over.
