HAUNTED
My mom was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This is a typed of cancer that affects the blood flow in the body. The body produces too many white blood cells which take away space for all the other red blood cells and platelets. Too many cells become lymphoblastic and lymphocytic (leukemia) and can, therefore, not fight infections.
It’s a condition that is usually hereditary or genetic. People with Down syndrome are usually the most unfortunate candidates of the disease, but my mom (who is neither a Down syndrome patient nor has any leukemia in her time line, I must add) was unfortunate enough to get it.
“Tay stop overthinking,” Lizzy said, “I can’t concentrate with you like that.”
“Easy for you to say,” I snapped.
“Pardon?” Lizzy said, clearly shocked. I, myself, was shocked too.
“Your mom isn’t going to die any minute,” I replied.
Lizzy didn’t reply but simply packed her nail polish pack and went to sit on the kitchen counter and continued with her nails. I wanted to walk over to the counter and apologize, but my apology wouldn’t be sincere enough, so I just sat there and stared at the ceiling.
Liz, Austin and Kirstie were at Pick n Pay getting some groceries since we weren’t touring anymore and were staying in a holiday house in Cape Front, near the beach. You all know how much I love my fans. Now try and imagine how much it hurt to have to cancel all the concerts I had booked. But then again, I’d rather not give them any concert at all than give them a poor performance.
Liz, Kirstie and Austin came back to the awkwardly silent house in a cheerful mood. “Feels great to finally be considered human again!” Liz shouted the minute she walked into the door. “Why, what happened?” Lizzy questioned. “Well,” Lizzy said, “No, no, no! Where’s Taylor? She has to be here when I say this.” I walked into the kitchen just as Liz was shouting my name at the top of her lungs for the 12th time; somehow making it funny. “Relax,” I said, “I heard you the first time.”
“Since you two monkeys made me go shopping with these two monkeys, you’re going to pay. Do you have any idea what it feels like to be the third-wheel in a car full of sexual tension?” Liz stated matter-of-factly. The looks on Kirstie and Austin’s faces were priceless. Lizzy and I were the only ones dying of laughter. When Liz tells a funny story, she never laughs. She’ll leave you laughing alone like an idiot.
“I swear,” Liz continued, “If I wasn’t in that car, we’d have to clean up a lot of semen-“ “Whoa,” Lizzy interrupted, “Under sixteen in the house!” We all burst out laughing again, forgetting about the current dark cloud in the house. With Liz being our source of entertainment of course.
Kirstie and Austin had a “thing” going on. When I asked Austin what was going on, he told me it was just a fling to “take his mind off things”. This really upset me because Kirstie was my friend and I don’t like it when friends get played. On the other hand, Kirstie’s the one with the huge crush on Scott and it would almost be impossible for her to give her heart to anyone else. So I guess they’re both at fault here. The worst that could happen is one falling for the other. Then things will get complicated.
Later during the night while we were all enjoying a movie session, Lizzy got up for the bathroom. After a while, I realized she had been gone for too long so I went to check up on her. I found my little angel busy blushing like nobody’s business in her room with the door semi-open, enough for me to eavesdrop without being seen.
“Liz is actually the chilled one…Taylor would freak out if she even heard I spoke to you…Hahaha…Yeah…I’ll try sneak out tomorrow…No…Austin can bring me…Hahaha…Alright…Bye…”
