Falling Back into Burzek

Discharged

Nicole and Kevin run into the rest of intelligence as they make their way back to Kim's room. They decided to eat in the cafeteria to give their emotions a break.

"How is she?" Voight asks.
"She's awake and sore. Adams with her now," Kevin responds.

They round the corner to her room and they all pause at the scene before them. Kim curled into Adam chest. Adams arm around her. Both asleep in the bed.

"About time this happened again," Dawson says.

Kevin looks at Hailey to see if she's okay with this. She looks hurt, but not entirely shocked. Guess even she knew Adam still loves Kim. Adam stirs, feeling like he's being stared at. His stirring wakes up Kim. When they open their eyes they see their entire unit and Nicole staring at them.

"Hey guys," Kim says.
The team all walk into her room.
"We heard you were awake and wanted to check in," Antonio says.
"I appreciate that. I'm okay, a bit sore and still pretty tired. Oh and hungry," Burgess says.
"That's my girl! If the grease wouldn't upset your stomach I'd get you a pork chop sandwich. I'll get you one when Will says it's okay," Kev tells her.
"thanks partner!" Kim exclaims.
"You know Kim you're already in my unit, you didn't need to get shot again" Voight jokes.
"Well I just wanted to make sure I stayed," she replies.
"I'm glad you're okay," Hailey says.
"Me too," Jay adds.
"Thank you guys for coming," Kim says smiling.

Adam can feel Haileys eyes on him. He decides to sit up and moves his arm from around Kim. He looks to Kevin for a reason to get up.

"Here's your sandwich man," Kev says.
"Thanks" Adam replies. Standing up to grab the sandwich. Kim feels lonely without Adam next to her but clears the thought from her mind.

"We wanted to update you. The girls have been found. They sold them to a known pimp who Jay has a CI with. We got them back safely. Both parents are looking at 30 years. Plus Janet is looking at an additional 15 for shooting a cop," Voight explains.
"I'm happy you got the girls back safe" Kim says.
"Me too!" Ruzek exclaims with a mouth full of breakfast.
"And with that I'm headed to back to the district. Call if you need anything," Voight says.

The rest of the team leaves as well as they have paperwork to finish up. Nicole asks Kevin to take her home. She needs to see Zoe and tell her what happened to her aunt. They tell Kim goodbye before leaving.

Kim looks at Adam who looks like he's in the same clothes and hasn't been home since yesterday morning.

"You know I'm probably just going to sleep some more. You can go home if you want," Kim says.
"I'm okay I don't want you to be alone," Adam responds.
"I'm not. I have Will if I need something. Please go home and rest and shower," Kim says.
"Fine but I'm coming back later" Adam says.
"Of course," Kim says with a smile.
"Call if you need me to bring anything," Adam says grabbing Kim's leg on the way out.
As thankful as she is for everyone's support she likes time to be alone and process things. She quickly finds her self slipping off into another nap.

She's awoken an hour later by Dr.Halstead.

"Just wanted to check on you and your incision," Dr.Halstead says.
"I'm feeling okay, just sore like I did 500 crunches. I'm mainly just sleepy," Kim explains.
"Both of those things are normal. You still have the sedative in your system and you were shot. Your incision is looking great. I'm going to leave the drain in for 3 more days. So you'll come back here and I'll remove it myself. If you have someone to stay with you,I'll be happy to discharge you this evening," Will says.
"That's great! I'm sure I can find someone to stay with me, either my sister or Kevin would do it. Thank you for everything Doc" Kim says shaking his head
"I'll be back before dinner to discharge you. No driving for a week. So make sure someone is here to get you," Will says.
Kim nods in agreement and Will leaves the room.
