Kim is quiet the whole ride and even once they get to the courtroom. Adam and Kev give her reassuring smiles. The rest of the team can sense her nervousness but don't quite understand why. Hailey is feeling just as nervous, knowing she's more than likely going to have to listen to Kim talk about her and Adams past. Adam is full of nerves for millions of reasons.

"All rise for Judge Matthews," The Officer states. They courtroom follows.
"Have a seat. This is Officer Ruzek vs Chicago. A character witness hearing," the judge states.
"Yes your honor, we would like to call Officer Burgess to the stand," Ruzeks lawayer states.

The judge nods and Kim heads to the stand. She gets sweared in and takes a seat. She lets out a breath and prepares herself for the questions.

"Officer Burgess, how long have you known Ruzek?" His lawyer asks.
"I've known him for 7 years," she replies.
"How would you describe your relationship with him?" The lawyer asks.
"I work along side Adam and have been since I joined the intelligence unit. Before that i assisted with cases. Personally, Adam and I are friends," she states.
"Isn't Adam living with you currently?" The lawyer continues.
"Yes. I was shot a few weeks back and my doctor did not want me to be alone. Adam agreed to stay with me since my sister was out of town and my best friend had an assignment," Kim explains.
"That's all I have for now," the lawyer says.

"Officer Burgess, you said you two are friends. You failed to mention that you two were a couple, engaged to be exact", the city's lawyer states.
"That's correct, I didn't know how much detail to give. Adam and I were once a couple and were engaged at one time. We have since reconciled and are now friends," she states.
"That's nice. I have reports that you called the engagement off because Adam had two previous engagements that he didn't go through with it and you felt he was just playing games," the lawyers states.
"That's partially correct. Yes Adam had been engaged two prior times but that's not the exact reason why I called things off," she starts. Her voice starts to shake and won't look at Adam.
"Why did you call off the engagement?" The lawyer asks.
"It was mixture of things. Yes him being engaged before did concern me. I had a partner at the time who made me believe that Adam didn't want to get married. I knew Adam loved me, I know that. At the time, I was being manipulated and instead of talking things out with Adam I jumped the gun and gave the ring back. It's my biggest mistake to date," Kim says looking down.
"Why is it a mistake?" The lawyer asks.
"Adam loved me and I loved him more than anyone else. I truly believe we could have worked through those issues and insecurities and we would probably be married right now. I wish I would have communicated better and we could have had a real chance," she says. She finally looks at Adam who looks sad and happy at the same time.
"I have nothing else," the city's lawyer says.

Adams lawyers steps back up," Officer so you, who was was once engaged to this man, believe this was out of character and is not something that will happen again,"
"Yes I truly believe that. Adam is one of the best cops and people that I know. Adam is not a criminal, he should not punished as so," Kim states.
"The defendant rests," Adams lawyer states.
"The city rests," the other lawyer states.
"Let's take a short recess and we'll reconvene with my answer" the judge states.

Everyone exits the courtroom. The unit all rush up to talk to Adam while Kim is able to sneak away. She finds an empty room and slides to the floor. That was hard for her, to tell everyone that she made a mistake and that she thinks her and Adam could be married. There's a knock at the door. Kim moves away so the person can enter.

"You good girl?" Kev asks.
"Yeah that was just intense," Kim says.
"Well I know Adam wants to talk to after what you said. By the sounds of it, it's needed" Kev says.
"We have talked before. But yeah we should have another talk," Kim replies.
There's another knock and it's Jay," the judge reached a decision."

They make their way back into the courtroom. Kim holds onto Kev as the judge takes a seat. Adam turns to look at them.

"Based on Officer Burgess testimony and Officer Ruzeks police record I have decided to drop all charges against Ruzek. Effective immediately. Case dismissed," the judge says as he hits the gravel.

Everyone cheers and goes to hug Adam. Kim is so happy and lets out a breath of air, she doesn't have to worry about Adam dying in jail.
