Falling Back into Burzek

They pull up to OID office and Kim gives Adams hand a squeeze in support. He gives her smile, lets out a breath and heads inside. Kim starts fiddling with anything she can to get her mind off of the situation.

"Officer Ruzek Thank you for coming in," Detective Chandler says.
"You're welcome. You said you had something to talk about," Adam says.
"Yes lets get right to it. We have found new evidence in your case. I wanted to give you the chance to retract your statement with no punishment," Chandler explains.
"Why would I retract my statement?" Adam asks.
"Well because the evidence doesn't match you or the deceased. Which means someone else was in that building with you," chandler explains.
"It was a vacant building, who knows how many other people have been in and out of that place," Adam counters.
"That's true. The blood we found was fresh, it should have belonged to you or the deceased and it does not. This is your last chance to retract your statement without consequences," Chandler says again.
"I'm not retracting my statement. Can I leave now? I have my injured partner in the car." Adam states.
"I guess, it's your choice" chandler says. He stands up and opens the door for adam.

Adam takes the stairs down and stops on the final landing, needing to recompose himself before going back to Burgess. He shots Voight a text saying they need to talk ASAP.

Kim sees Adam come outside and can tell he's upset, his body is stiff and he looks like his mind is elsewhere. Adam gets in the car and lets out another breath.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" Kim asks.
"No. Not right now. Could you just hold my hand? Please" Adam asks.
Kim nods and takes his hand. Adam relaxes a bit, her touch always affects him.
"We need to stop by the district for a few," Adam tells her.
"I assumed that. That's fine, I can check in with Platt," Kim says.
"She's always had a soft spot for you," he tells her.
"Yeah I've noticed that. She has one for you as well," she responds.
"Yeah because you were engaged to me, otherwise she'd hate me" he responds with a laugh. Kim chuckles at his remark, knowing he's right.

They pull up to the district and Kim heads to see Platt and Adam heads to the garage to meet with Voight and Dawson.

"Hey Srg, how are things?" Kim asks.
"Better until you walked in. I'm just glad you're okay. Is special sauce treating you okay?" Platt asks.
"Yeah he's been great," Kim responds.
Platt gives her a look.
"I don't know," Kim says to answer her unasked question.
"Just be careful. Him and Hailey just broke up," Platt says.
"I know," Kim responds and heads upstairs to see the rest of the team.

"OID called and I had to meet with him. Asked if I wanted to retract my statements because they found fresh blood that didn't match me or the deceased," Adam explains.
"Did you retract?" Dawson asks.
"No of course not," Adam responds.
"Let's just be careful. Don't talk about this anywhere except face to face," Voight tells them. They all nod in agreement. After making their rounds Adam and Kim head back to her apartment.

"I could sleep for half a day at this point", Kim says as she heads to her bed. She climbs in and gets comfortable waiting on Adam to respond. He leans against the doorframe to her bedroom.
"You look pretty comfy," he says.
"I'd be more comfortable there was someone to take up space in this bed," she says with a smirk. Adam laughs and climbs in bed next to her.

"I want to tell you what's going on with OID, but I don't want you caught in the middle of it," he tell her.
"I understand, you're just trying to protect me. I'm still here for you Adam, even if you can't give me the whole story," she says as she rolls over to face him.
"You know I'd do anything to protect this team, I learned that from Al. I'm just a bit worried what's going to happen to me," He replies.
"Adam you're a damn good cop. I only know a little of the situation, but if it goes south please know I'll do everything in my power to help you." She responds while taking his face in her hands.
"That means so much to me Kim," he says as he kisses her forehead.
"Now let's sleep," Kim says.

Adam nods in agreement and curls into Adam chest. This exactly what Adam needed to calm himself. He'll always protect her and Intelligence, even if it puts himself in jeopardy. He just hopes she won't think less of him if this goes south. He's so happy with where they are right now, he couldn't handle it if he loses her again, especially after just getting her back in a way
