Finding a Rhythm

Kim and Adam have had numerous visitors since she's been home between intelligence members, old patrol partners, Platt and friends. The two haven't spent much time alone together besides at night. Most nights Adam wakes up to find Kim standing beside him needing to be held and of course Adam can't tell her no. All the visitors have left for the day and they are cleaning up the kitchen together. Both lost in their own thoughts.

"We should probably head to bed early tonight since I have my appointment with Dr.Halstead at 730 tomorrow morning," Kim says.
"I'm tired so that doesn't sound like a bad idea," Adam replies.
"It'd be nice if I could sleep through the night," she says annoyed.
"Why don't you just start the night out sleeping in the same bed with me? Maybe that'll prevent the dreams from happening" he suggests.
"Adam," she says.
"What? I'm not going to try anything. Yes I like having you curled up in my chest, you know that. But I just want you to get a good night of sleep" he explains.
Kim thinks about Adam statement and remembers his comment from the other day about, not like this.
"Okay. Tonight we're sleeping in my bed it's way more comfortable than the guest bed," she says.
Adam heads to the guest room and changes into his sweats. Kim does the same and waits for Adam to come in to help her pull hers up. It's still a little weird but she's getting used to it. Adam finishes and heads to Kim's room. He kneels down as usual and pulls the sweats up so she can reach and then turns around. Kim gives him the all clear.

"What side do you want?" Adam asks unsure of how she sleeps in her own bed.
"It really doesn't matter, just lay down and get comfortable and then I'll curl up into you" she says hesitantly. She's normally half asleep and in a panic when she goes to Adam. She doesn't have time to think about like now. Adam lays down and gets comfortable on his back and pats the bed for Kim. She lays down and turns over leaning her head on his chest while he wraps his arm around her.

"This is nice" Adam says more to the air than to Kim.
"Yeah it is" she says. She can hear his heartbeat get faster as she lays with him.
"I'm not sure if I've said thank you, so thank you Kim," he says.
"Thank you, for what? You're the one who has put his life on hold for me" she says confused.
"You took a bullet for me Kim. The least I can say is thank you. I don't want to freak you out, but I've missed you a lot. I know I hurt you and we have a lot to work through" he states worried how she'll react.
"I told you, I couldn't handle it if you got shot. No need to thank me. Why don't we go for lunch tomorrow, get out for something other than an appointment and we can talk things through" she suggests.
"Sounds good to me" he says.
Kim nods against his chest and starts to fall asleep, it's easy when she's laying with him.
"Goodnight darling" he whispers as he kisses the top of her head. She smiles and falls asleep.

A phone ringing wakes Kim and Adam up again. When she rolls over to grab the phone she noticed the sun is shining, signaling she slept through the night finally. She picked up the phone.

"Hello" she says.
"Hello, I'm looking for Adam Ruzek," the man says.
"Yes sir. Sorry i thought it was my phone" she explains. She nudges Adam and hands him the phone.
"Hello, this is Adam" he says.
"Hello I'm Detective Chandler with OID. I need you to come in this morning, as soon as possible to discuss your case," he explains.
"My case? IA closed it," Adam says confused.
"That's why you need to come in as soon as possible for us to discuss it" the detective says.
"Well it's going to be a few hours, my partner was shot and I have to take her to her doctor appointment," Adam explains.
"Seems like she's more than a partner from what I've heard," the detective replies.
"Listen I will be there when I can but it's going to be mid morning. I will see you later detective" Adam says as he hangs up.
He throws the phone down on the bed and falls back down on the bed as well.

"I'm sorry I thought it was mine" Kim says.
"It's okay, it's not your fault" Adam says.
"We still have 30 mins before we need to be up, we can talk or go back to sleep" she says.
"Can you just lay with me?" He asks.
"Yeah sure" she says as she curls up to his chest.

She can tell his mind is thinking a lot, she's not exactly sure what the case is, but she knows it's about Antonio and his drug problem. He told Hailey more than her about it. She runs her hand up and down his side, trying to comfort him.

The motion of her rubbing his side brings him out of his thoughts. She's always had a way of distracting him and grounding him at the same time. He can't wait to talk about things and hopefully get back on track to being with each other. He rubs her back in return as appreciation. He ends up dozing off until he hears the alarm go off and Kim start to move. She rolls over and turns off the alarm.

"I liked Will until he made this appointment so early," Kim groans.
"I couldn't agree more," Adam replies as he stretches.
"I'll go get dressed and then come back and help you" he adds.

Kim nods and watches Adam leave the room, feeling empty without him. She goes through the routine of getting dressed and waits for Adam to come back. Her heart starts to race at the thought of being close to him again.

"Can I come in?" Adam asks as he knocks.
"Yeah of course," she says.

Adam kneels down and does the usual pulling her sweats up. Before he stands Kim grabs both is his arms and pulls him towards her and kisses his forehead. This startles Adam and he's not sure what to do next.

"I just wanted to say thank you. I'm not going to lie Adam, it's been nice having you around and the views pretty great too," she says with a smirk.
Adam smiles and kisses her cheek,"it has been really nice being around you again for kore than work" he says. He backs away as she pulls her sweats up and they head out for her appointment.

Dr.Halstead took out her drains and is happy with how her healing is going. He still wants Adam to stay with her and no driving. Happy with the appointment they head to breakfast to have their talk before Adam meets with OID. He doesn't want that meeting to affect the talk with Kim. He wants to tell her he's still in love with her and wants to be better for her. The drive to the restaurant has never seem so long. Kim is feeling the same way, they've needed to have this talk for a long time.

Authors Note: I wasn't sure how to end this chapter, but I want to have their talk in a separate chapter and it will be detailed. I wanted to pull somethings from the finale in and Adams troubles.
