Leo's POV
I stared at my vibrating phone like something that had teeth for a while before I picked it. "Hi Danica" I said into the phone and Danica's voice floated through chaos which I could hear in the background. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I was taking that opportunity to rest easy from work.
"Hi Leo."
"Have you been crying?"
"No." She lied. "Keith and I had a fight and he's coming over to crash at your place. I told him to go to his mother's place because you may not want someone over but he didn't listen as usual. So I called to give you a heads up. You can send him away if you want to." She completed and I sighed.
"What did he do this time?"
"He was rude to me."
"Ahh. Okay. I apologise on his behalf. Thank you for letting me know and do take care of yourself." I didn't take it serious because it wasn't the first time it was happening. It happened like 7 times when she was pregnant with their daughter.
"Bye." She said and disconnected. I wasn't so keen on Keith sleeping over in my house. Keith is my brother from another mother who I love and would do anything for but I didn't like living with Keith. He does this one particular thing that gets on my nerves every time. He usually forgets to cap the toothpaste.
Right from when we were really young, I'd always noticed the difference between both of us. He was a spoiled kid. His mother let him get away with almost everything and anything but I didn't have that luxury. My father would say just because we have money doesn't mean I have to give you every single thing you want. Money doesn't grow on trees. You work for it. Now if I gave you every single thing you wanted, what kind of message would I be passing? What will happen to you if something goes wrong tomorrow and the money's gone? What next? And my mother would go all clean your room and do your laundry Leonard!!! on my ass every Saturday.
So in as much as there were people to clean when i was growing up, i always had to clean my room and do my own laundry. I had chores but Keith didn't. I had to work for my allowance, he didn't. I got grounded whenever I did what I wasn't supposed to do, he didn't. His mother let him get away with everything and anything.
Keith works hard. He is a good business man with a great business acumen and he is freaking smart and does what he does well but all those things I was forced to learn as a kid which he didn't, he couldn't do any of them. Even when we shared a house when we were in college, he was like that. He'd find anyone to do his chores other than himself.
If he didn't get what he wanted, he'd throw a tantrum, hence his nasty behavior to Danica when they got married. He told her to do all the chores just to show how much he despised her and she actually did every thing even though she was just like him, a person who grew up surrounded by help and not knowing how to do chores.
One of the good things about his marriage to her is the fact that he actually became a better person generally and he also started doing things for himself because she stopped doing those things for him and he wanted to do everything to please her including doing the dishes when she asked him to do it. It was an improvement but he still didn't know how to really keep things together. He is a slob, she isn't and makes him do what he's supposed to do. Me on the other hand hate telling people to put the thing back where they found it because it is tiring.
If he sleeps over in my house, he'd leave one thing or another out of place as usual and I'll be in a bad mood.
I heard someone open the gate and drive in 15 minutes later and I knew he was the one because I gave him a key to the place so that they'd help me check on some things whenever I travel. Next thing, he barged into the place like his own damned house. It reminded me of the days I used to be that way in his house until the very day I walked into what I wasn't supposed to see. I looked up when he came into the living room.
