Pressing the door bell, I waited for Danica to open the door to her home. It took a while for her children's pinkeye to clear up, and along the line, she and her husband got infected and so they all stayed away from everyone. For that reason, she wasn't able to go to work for 2 weeks plus and so my surprise for Amari had to wait. Finally, one a sunny day, Danica called and said that it was safe for them to meet people, that the pinkeye cleared up and they already cleaned and disinfected the whole place, so people could comfortably visit again. I asked for an appropriate time to meet up at the shelter and she said she'd bring them over to the house after giving them a one over and making sure all their vaccines were up to date and then I could take them home.
I went to the shelter that weekend I first called her to see them to know if we gelled like she said and when I saw them and how close they were, I couldn't bear the thought of taking one and leaving the other because their mum and siblings were gone and all they had left was each other. So I called and let her know I already saw them and I'd want to adopt them when she was back to work and she agreed.
That was what led to my trip to the James's Household. It was a Saturday and I left Amari with my mum as usual. I imagined how wild she'd go when I introduced them and it brought a smile to my face. I knocked again and finally heard the key turn. I put on a big smile and already started saying Hi until I saw who opened the door and I lost the smile a little. Leo.
"Good afternoon Sir." I said politely to which he replied and waved me in before closing the door. Our 14 days ended weeks ago and I didn't know how to really act afterwards, so I just stuck to the safest option which was to act professionally. It was almost like nothing happened between us, which is fine because that was how it was supposed to be. The only thing was just the fact that the trip was the last time we did anything. He had given me the name and address of the therapist and the date of my first appointment and that was just about it.
"Danica asked me to get the door since I was the one closest to it. Just sit down, she will be with you in a minute." he said before going back in to sit with his friends. I sat down in the lounge and waited for her, feeling awkward as hell.
Laughter and shouts came from where the guys were a number of times and I sighed. I really wished I had friends like that. I stood up when Danica came out with a pet crate and a big ass smile. "Hello. It's so nice to see you" she said as she dropped the crate on the floor and gave me a tight hug.
"So here they are. Vaccines are up to date and Birman cats are amazing. You'll love them." she said to me while she opened the crate to bring one out. Meow was what I heard when she reached into the crate for one of them.
"Oh my God. She's so cute!" I squealed embarrassingly and the cat hissed because of the noise. "Oh. I'm so sorry." I whispered sheepishly and Danica chuckled.
"This one's a he. The she is still in the crate." she said as she passed the kitten to me. Despite the frown on his face, he purred when I scratched behind his ear and I laughed. I didn't think he liked me very much. "Don't worry. They'll get used to you soon. One week tops."
"Alright. Thank you so much." I said as she put him back into the crate.
"You're welcome. So if you have any questions, holla at your girl and I'll let you know what to do alright?"
"Yes! Thank you once again." I said as I beamed at her.
"You're welcome. I'll be right back."
When she left, I took out my phone and went on Google to search and read up on more of the things that I needed to know as regards taking care of cats and looked up when I heard tiny footsteps and the sound of children laughing. Then there was a squeal and a man humped and then more squeals and laughter. My curiosity got the best of me and I peeked in and saw Leo and his best friend's kids as they made their way out of the kitchen.l, bottle of water in hand. The twins were attached to his legs and climbing up his legs like little monkeys while the girl had her arms wrapped around his neck as he struggled to shake off the ones hanging onto his legs while laughing.
