"Is she doing okay?" someone said behind Tony. He turned around and saw Coulson standing in the doorway of Spade's room. After she was examined for injuries, S.H.I.E.L.D. let Tony take her home so she we wouldn't be subject to tests after tests and experiments. She was resting in her bed in her apartment with Tony sitting by her side.
"She's stable. I only wish that she passed out from exhaustion but seeing her fight like that..." Tony said, trailing of at the end. Coulson walked over to her and looked at her sleeping form.
"I always wanted to find an excuse to believe in faeries, now I can say that I personally know one," the agent said with youth lacing his voice. "I'm going to be honest though," Tony perked up at this, "if anyone was going to be a faerie, it was going to be her; she'll be perfectly fine," Coulson said with certainty. Tony still said nothing, he only held his sister's hand and lowered his head as if he were asking for forgiveness. The agent behind him had never seen the arrogant billionaire genius like this. "Don't prove me wrong, Spade," Coulson whispered, glancing at her still form.
"She doesn't hate me..." he said distantly. Coulson sat down next to him, urging him to finish his thought. "When we were younger we made a promise-a pact- to keep no secrets; and if we did, our friendship, love, and trust would be put into question and would be turned into hatred and disappointment. I wanted her to love me, and she wanted my trust," Tony sniffed and quickly wiped away a tear, "I broke that promise but she loves me anyway."
"Damn. That is some deep shit," the agent mumbled.
"How do you know where she lives anyway?" Stark said accusingly while standing up and having Coulson, his moment of emotion quickly wiped away.
"I have the second highest ranking in S.H.I.E.L.D. so I know everything about everyone. But what I don't know is how you're going to be and to reach her dimension that you told me about," he said smoothly. Stark sighed and started to pace, hesitant to tell him.
"There's...an island that I inherited that has the gateway to the Moors," Tony said slowly but surely. As soon as he said that however, the boys felt a guest of wind blow past them. Tony started to walk through the door it passed through when Coulson reported Spade's bed to be empty. Tony knew his sister well enough to know what her plan; so, motioning for Coulson to stay and wait, he walked out of the room and prepared two glasses of scotch and he brought them two the window where his conscious sister was gazing. She took the glass and took a long drink, almost emptying the glass.
"She didn't like New York," she started. Her brother listened intently, "Abhainn said that there wasn't enough connection between the people. Then again, where's the unity in a magical war?" She swished around the scotch in the glass, leaving her words in the air.
"Coulson is here," Tony said after a bit.
"I know." She downed the rest of her drink. "And be would know by now that I'm fine and functioning. That's why he left a note and quietly saw himself out," she said before going to put the glass in the sink. Her brother detoured by her room and saw that he had indeed gone and left a note where he sat.
"How did you know that?" He asked in amazement.
"Fae hearing," she indicated her pointed ears, drying her hands after washing them. "Abhainn transfered everything she knew and her skills to me... But it's because of that-because of me- that she died." Her accented voice broke but she kept her composure. Tony thought for a minute until he finished his scotch and put aside his glass.
"So?" He said defiantly from the counter. Spade looked appalled and was almost ready to pounce at him, but he continued before she strangled him. "What are you going to do about it? Huh? Be like me and wash the problem away with drinks, non-stop working, and parties? Or are you going to avenge her and take initiative by going to the Moors, taking your crown, and stopping that war?" All of her thoughts on punching him stopped; he was right that she needed to get her shit together if she was going to fulfill her birthright. Yet again...she was scared.
But I can't say that, she thought. Spade had wanted to escape the life of fame she had since her parents died, but she was scared of the fact that she had to take this chance under pressure. The Fae looked down at her hands and formed a small crystal, but her reflection showed her a face Spade didn't expect to see; courage, defiance, strength, and pride. Tony hoped he got through to her when he saw her smile. "Get me to that island tomorrow. Anyone who stands in my way to the throne we'll be shattered," she declared, turning the crystal in her hand into dust. Tony smiled.
"I think another drink is in order."
