Get the Regret Over
Chapter 3
A Knight and his Prince

.:Flashback:.

James took the ladder hurriedly from the backyard storage and ran carefully approaching the tree. There’s a cat, a grey American shorthair, he was trapped up there and he was not able to get down on his own. James wanted to help him even though he was late for the dancing rehearsal. He was sticking the ladder to the tree and climbing it cautiously. In a minute, he reached the top where the cat was being held. The cat was so scared as James finally caught him, cuddled him with his arm and whispering gently.

“It’s okay, kitty…I got you.” He kissed the cat, sensing the smooth and soft fur stroking his skin. “Now let’s get down and found your owner.” He added.

One by one, James took a step down on the ladder, taking grip and maintaining the balance. However, the autumn wind blew so hardly, the ladder was not so stable restraining his body. Someone’s advancing toward him and it was Kendall, at the same time he was yelling out, calling James from a far as he kept on nearing. James didn’t have much concentration to be divided and he suddenly tripped off from the ladder, falling to the ground. Kendall shocked out; luckily he did hold the ladder before it was tumbling over James, while the brunette was eventually about surrendering himself. He didn’t care if the stair crashed into him, as long as this kitty was under his protection and safe, he would be glad.

“Thank you, Kendall. You’ve saved me.” James said, getting up from the ground with little cat on his arms.

“Oh God, James! You should be careful, next time.” Kendall sighed miserably, but he was so relieved that everyone was alright: him, James and the cat.

“Sorry about that.” James felt so guilty, putting Kendall on trouble.

“No, it’s okay.” They were skipping the forecourt, heading to the storage on the backyard. “Anyway, Mr. X was having disease, so I came here to tell since you’re not replying my message. I was worried if you came to the studio and no one was there.” Kendall chuckled. James smiled at him.

“That’s very kind of you. I owe you twice, Kendall. Thanks a lot.” His tone was so pleased and gentle. Kendall was happy every time James had that pitch on his voice. They placed the stair back to its spot and strolled out, looking for the cat’s owner. It must be around the neighborhood, because it didn’t seem like stray cat. The fur was so silky and cleaned. Unfortunately, there’s no nametag on it, so James had to wander searching for its owner.

Kendall was happy helping James finding the cat’s owner as he followed the brunette around. He was visiting the first house, Mrs. Sally, located right beside James’s house. Yet, the fortune was not on their side, since it was not hers and Mrs. Sally had no clue about the owner of this cat. Second, they went to Mr. Jenkins’s house across the street and too bad there’s no one home that time. James and Kendall continued walking to the next neighbor; the house belonged to Manson’s family. Their little girl, Mindy opened the door for them.

“Hello, Mindy. Is your mom home?” Mindy stared at James innocently as she sucked her thumb. “Mommy! Jamie is looking for you! He brought a kitty!” She yelled out, running inside for her mommy. Yes, she called James as Jamie since it was easier to be pronounced by child.

“Jamie, huh?” Kendall taunted his right eyebrow, smirking. James only giggled without a sound. In a minute Mrs. Manson was out, meeting James.

“Oh hello, James. How can I help you?” She said welcoming.

“Umm…Mrs. Manson. I am looking for this cat owner. Do you have any idea who is he?” James asked openly without shilly-shally. Mrs. Manson recognized this cat, but she kind of forgot the real owner—it was between Mrs. Gregory and Mrs. Charleston. It took almost 15 minutes to remember then she finally had in mind.

“It belonged to Mrs. Charleston. Her house is located on the end of this street, over there.” She confirmed as pointing to the road leading to her house. James and Kendall expressed their gratitude and took off instantly, pacing toward the house where Mrs. Charleston lived.

After their cat business was complete, they went back to James’s house. Kendall was having eyes for James all the way long, this person—his childhood friend was very skinny before they joined the band. He’s now working out and of course the result was pretty much displayed. He got those broad shoulders, big muscular biceps and huge pectorals. Besides, he had cut his hair, that made him looked manly, yet still the pretty image will never be vanished on him. Those long curly eyelashes, thin nose and pink lips attached to his face, he was cute as ever.

James had changed a lot from the outer, yet he was remained himself at the inner, still gentle, kind-hearted and clumsy. The clumsy part made him more adorable and funny somehow. Kendall hoped that they would be always this way, together, forever and inseparable.

The blonde suddenly held James’s hand as they kept moving forward. James was sort of surprised, rolling his eyes to his best friend and stared down to their hands. Kendall seemed so peaceful, gazing at the twilight up there with his charming smile that also created smile on James’s face. They were having good time together, remembering the past that they used to holding hand each other when they were kids.

.:A Knight and his prince:.

“James, hang on! Paramedic is on their way!” Kendall screamed loudly, holding James hand, trying his best saving James’s life.

It was a big accident where James protected Kendall from reckless motorist who denied the traffic light. When Kendall crossed the street, the badass biker was on high speed and denied the red light in front of him. James noticed before Kendall and pushed the blonde away once the motorcycle was about hitting him. As the result, James had to take the risk, being knocked and fell to the ground at once. He lost his consciousness while the biker didn’t take any responsibility and did escape. Kendall ran into James with lightning speed, screaming his name then dragged his body to the sidewalk. He called 911, assisting his best friend with artificial respiration, pressing James’s chest repeatedly, yet he was not conscious.

The tears dropped into James’s cheek, Kendall was crying as he kept forcing 911 to be hurry, sending their paramedic, although he understood it was such foolishness. An hour had passed, James was sent to the nearest hospital and Kendall escorted him there. His heart broke into pieces. He’s afraid of losing his childhood friend, waiting for him at the hospital alone, being invaded by bad sense, nevertheless encouraged himself to be unfaltering. Logan and Carlos were on their way, stuck on Monday rush hour. Kendall hoped for the best, drowning his head to his palms, wishing James would be alright and imagined his gentle smile. Several minutes later, a doctor came out, seeking for Kendall.

“Are you Mr. James Maslow’s family?” He questioned. Kendall quickly stood up, facing the doctor.

“I am, sir!” He shouted worriedly without thinking if he’s not actually James’s family, well he was James’s family in Big Time Rush.
