Chapter 6

A few months later...

Archie and Ruby have become good friends and always have each others backs (though they haven't told each other how they feel) in this episode there will be flashbacks and it might get confusing.

A few weeks after the accident....

Addy's POV

I never meant for this to happen I was so sure of myself and that my family would accept me, but here I am living under a bridge like a troll. It's freezing and I can't seem to get warm, I think of warm central heating and a tear escapes as I jump down from my perch I must land funny because a shooting pain rockets up my spine and I collapse into the darkness, I open my eyes just a crack and light streams in "am I dead"I ask the blurry figure above me "no love, you gave it a bloody good try though" a welsh accent tells me. I open my eyes even sedated i can feel my muscles seizing up "it hurts" I groan exhausted I'm going to be sick, luckily the second paramedic has a bowl. Once we reach the hospital I hear a lot of mumbo jumbo doctor speak that I don't understand so i pass out and let them get on with their jobs, when I wake I'm in a different bed and I'm wearing a stupid gown I quickly take it off and try to get changed despite my arm being in a sling and my body in pain "going somewhere" a voice asks from the shadows i nearly jump out of my skin. A crew cut doctor comes into view "Archie Hudson" she says introducing herself i shake her outstreched hand "Addy" i reply "okay Addy, can you promise to stay here while i grab your meds, i nod dumbstruck. "She does have that affect on people" a paramedic says I recognise her as one of the paramedics that helped me. Archie returnes to us and hands me my meds  "thanks" i grin "um where are the toilets" I ask politly and Archie gives me directions, when i turn to check I'm going the right way i see them laughing together and i see  a look of hidden love on both their faces, I turn the wrong way and get lost immediately going up and down stairs till i reach a room that looks a bit like a bathroom and I enter. Instead I find Gym equipment and a punch bag, i'm about to turn out of the room when something catches my eye i walk over and pull at the dangling piece of string. A ladder descends from the ceiling and I climb up, I gasp in shock as i poke my head through it has a warm bed just waiting for me and blankets and buckets galore, I think I've found my home.

A few months later...

over the last few months I've been living in the attic and secretly helping around the hospital, filing paperwork and and typing up reports for people, they call me the magic fairy, they think it's one of the cleaning staff so my cover is safe one day I'm lying in bed when i see the rusty pipe start to gurgle i get a bad feeling but ignore it hoping against hope that it won't.... "ahhh sugar honey iced tea" I yell and jump into action stuffing the hatch with blankets and chairs if i die it'll be no big deal but if the hospital floods hundreds of lives could be at risk as everything starts to float i think of all the good times I've had here sleeping, eating everyday, watching Archie and Ruby be awquard around each other. as the water reaches my armpits i feel done for swimming tiredly to keep myself afloat.

Archie's POV

Suddenly in the middle of my shift I see a tiny trickle of water on the stairs, I call cleaning but half an hour later Maggie, one of the cleaning staff calls me out quietly "we can't stop it Dr. Hudson" she tells me I decide I've had enough and hurry up the stairs with Ruby at my heels. We follow the trickle of water up and up to our training room, I look at ruby confused she just raises an eyebrow when we go in the carpet is damp and water seems to be falling from the roof . then I realise quite abruptly that theres an attic in this room and it's filling with water rapidly we call the fire department and are about to leave when we hear a cry "ow ouch". I just stare at ruby then without saying a word were both sprinting up to the roof with Ruby's help I pull one of the cinder blocks out of the roof. I stick my head down and suddenly see "Addy!?!?!". "Sorry Archie I did my best to stop the water but the old pipes burst" she yells barley keeping herself above water, finally the firefighters arrive just in the nick of time and help pull Addy out. She's frozen and looks like she was about to faint "everyone needs to evacuate this hospital while we drain this water" the head firefighter says. "Archie I need you to start up triage outside" Charlie demands "got it but what about Adelaide ??" I ask him "I'll take her" says a cold voice belonging to the one and only Jac Naylor. I nod and bend down to the shivering girl " I have to go but Miss Naylor is going to look after you okay". she nods and I race to start evacuating the hospital.

Addy's POV

I walk with Miss Naylor and get treated for hypothermia , I like her she doesn't ask any questions as to why i was in the hospitals attic eventually I go and get a warm bath, as I'm drying off my hair i hear a thud "Miss Naylor?? Miss Naylor!? Jac?" I call but get no reply I get dressed quickly and open the door she is lying on the ground clearly collapsed when I hear an ominous crack and a piece of the ceiling falls way too close to my head we have to get out of here now.

I lift Jac into my arms she's heavy but It's manageable I put her down and sprint to the hard hat  and safety cupboard there's only one, why is there only one I scream internally I rush back to Jac and pick her up again, maybe if I hold her head differently, no that won't work I think desperately meanwhile the hospital is still falling apart and a fire has started. It's between me and her, a homeless gay girl against the best surgeon in London (that's what I heard Ruby say once) It's a no brainer. I secure the hat on her head and speed walk to where triage is but it can't be simple, oh no Concrete starts to fall on my head and my jeans have caught fire " great" I mumble exhausted and in severe pain suddenly a large piece of concrete  hits me hard on the back of my head, I know straight away I'm a goner just the fact that it doesn't hurt, I know I don't have long left ever since that day I jumped off that bridge I've been living on borrowed time.

 If I was alone I'd lie down here and go to sleep but Jac needs me so I push through knowing each breath could be my last eventually I stumble out the doors and someone rushes to me and takes Jac then I collapse exhausted

Archie's POV

 I'm treating a patient with lung cancer when suddenly a huge dust of smoke bellows out of the doors, I see an outline of Addy and her holding someone I rush towards them and Ruby takes Jac from the gasping girl then she collapses when I see the huge dent In the back of her head I know she's not going to make it long when I get her on a bed her eyes flutter open. "why was there only one" she asks " only one what?" I ask gently  "one helmet. There was only one helmet "Dr. Hudson can you promise me something" she asks her breathing shallow. "Of course anything" I tell her "Please tell Ruby how you feel" she begs, I nod shocked and she grins, and her eyes flutter shut for the last time.

I burst into tears the first time I've done so since my friend killed herself in the last hospital I sit on the bench and cry my eyes out "Archie what happened" Ruby asks kindly putting her arm around me "she's gone" i say not quite believing it myself. "oh Archie" she says carefully tell me what happened. And it all comes tumbling out not just about Addy but about why I transferred to holy in the first place ".....but she made me promise something before she died" I say "what was it" Ruby asks. I take a deep breath and say "she made me promise t..to tell you how i feel, I really like you Ruby" i say finally. she Looks at me a bit shocked "and I get it If you don't like me me back, I just thought you should kn...." I'm cut off by her kissing  me I feel shocked but deepen the kiss falling into oblivion, with her and only her.
