Chapter 10

Ruby's POV

I look over at Archie sleeping she looked after me so well after my illness it has been a few months since then and I'm training to be a specialist paramedic, Jan put me up for the job it basically requires me to have the skills of a doctor out on call Holby City doesn't have one and I am currently working with Archie to learn more about being a doctor.

Archie's POV

The day starts and we're immediately rushed off our feet, close to what should be lunch things quiet down. But then I hear Ruby call she took a call with Iain for a hit and run accident." What's the story Red?" I ask "16 year old female was found lying on the road by her neighbour her left forearm is broken in about 5 places she's got two broken ribs a broken ankle and about a million fractures" she recites I nod at and get to work. "Mind if I work this one with you I've got a weird feeling about her she asks "sure anything else to add?" "Not really, only some of her injuries don't consist with getting hot by a car". Ruby says I'm just about to say that every case is different when I hear a panicked " I just fell funny" I look to Ruby and give her a look that says **well that's odd** she nods and gets back to work finally her parents arrive crying and scared out of their minds they ask a million questions but after a while they calm down and sit with her as me and Ruby keep an eye on her. We're just back from X-ray when Alice's dad pipes up "Uncle Mike and Auntie Sandra are going to be here soon they want to see you, immediately I see Alice tense and try to bullshit an excuse "umm I'm a bit tired honestly" she fake yawns, "nonsense Mike and Sandra are dying to see you Alice they're very worried about you". She nods defeated when I get the X-RAY back I'm shocked "Ruby come see this" holding up the photo to the light " what the hell" "that's what I thought too, but this isn't the first time she's been hurt look at all those healing ribs I say I take one look at Ruby and call child services but they say they need more proof if it's not an immediate relative. Me and Ruby come up with a plan, but we argue about who's going to execute it as we're arguing I see Alice's aunt and uncle come in " I'm doing it, end of conversation" I say and slip into Alice's room unnoticed by her or anyone else I slip behind the curtain and hide we did try to talk to Alice but she was too scared to say anything. I hear Ruby usher them in, I can tell she doesn't want to leave us alone but she has to. " Hello dear" I hear her aunt say sinerstly I shiver " you didn't tell them did you" I look over to my phone on the the nurses station and smile a little knowing it's recording and CCTV has been specifically asked for in this room. "O-o-of c-couse not ,t" she stutters I hear him grab her wrist " if you tell anyone that we tried to run you over we will kill everyone in your family, including your little brother and sister". Her aunt joins in mockingly " no one would even care anyway" , I hear Alice sob "no one would even believe you anyway they need together. "I believe her" I say dramatically leaving my hiding hole, while they're all in shock I dive for my phone pressing the off button and sending it to child services. Mike come crazy close to threatening me but then the police barge in and arrest them both. "Perfect timing as always" I say to Red and watch as the two maniacs get put in the police car as Charlie explains the situation to Alice's parents.
