Next morning

Henry's POV

I wake up at 6 am, like every day. I brush my teeth, wash my face and go downstairs to see my dad cooking breakfast in the kitchen. I walk up to him.

H: good morning dad.

My dad turns around to see me and gives me a warm smile.

B: oh hey hen...good morning. How did you sleep last night?

H: good.... I answer.

B: come sit, I am making pancakes.

H: oh I love pancakes. Grandma always makes me pancakes for the breakfast....i say and then the realization hits me and tears starts falling down my face.

My dad sees me and hugs me.

B: hey hey it's gonna be okay kid...he says rubbing my back.

I wipe my tears with my sleeves and nod my head.

B: so, you want whipped cream on top?.....my dad asks holding the whipped cream can in his hand.

H: yes, please...I answer.

He puts a smiley face on my pancake just like grandpa would and again tears started rolling down but I wiped them immediately so my dad doesn't notice them.

Just then my mom came downstairs followed by my sister. I wish them a good morning and gave them a smile. My mom hugged me and wished me back while Frankie just glared at me. Of course, my parents didn't notice that as they were too busy getting ready for work.

K: so, Henry, what do you wanna do today?.....my mom asked me.

H: I don't know, maybe read a book.... I answer honestly.

My sister burst out in laughter at my statement and that made me sad.

B: Frankie, that's not okay. Apologize to your brother....my dad says with a stern voice.

F: why should I? He is NOT my brother.....she says and scoffs.

K: Frankie, DO NOT talk to your father that way....my mom reprimands her.

F: sorry mom. Sorry, dad.....she apologizes.

B: now, apologize to Henry.....my dad says with the same stern voice.

Frankie scoffs and gives me a disgusted look.

F: sorry....she mumbles.

H: it's okay.... I answer.

K: now Henry, why don't you tag along with your sister to her friend's house?......my mom says casually.

Before I could answer, Frankie speaks.

F: no mom, I am NOT taking him to my friend's house.

B: why not Frankie?

F: because he is not my brother...she says glaring at me.

I look down and didn't say anything because I understand that I am not welcome here and Frankie hates me so much.

B: FRANKIE...my dad yells.

I look up to see my dad giving her a death stare. I felt bad for her because even though she hates me, she is my sister.

H: its okay dad. I like staying home anyways...I say trying to salvage the situation.
