Valentina's heart was skipping almost every beat with the spazzing mad demon holding a stake over Nicholae's heart.
She wanted to scream and cuss out Harris For what he'd done to Fauna, and for this very moment. She didn't want to be calm about anything but she had to be, to coax out Nicholae. The tears fell from her eyes and the sorrow threatened to devour her from the inside out of her soul.
'Shut up.' The demonic voice screeched.
Valentina shook her head at Clarissa asking her to continue.
'Don't let him win Cole.' Valentina sobbed a little, her voice breaking at the end.
True, Nicholae had hurt her but she still loved him with everything she was and she couldn't lose him like this, not when she still had all this love to give to him.
'You don't want to kill me before knowing the truth about Niko's mother.'
Valentina hesitated, so did Clarissa who looked at Valentina for guidance.
It had to be a trick because Harris laughed, just like how he'd caught her off guard, he'd done the same to Nicholae.
'No.' But she was too late.
Harris grinned as he pierced the stake into Nicholae's chest.
Valentina slid to her lovers side on her knees pulling his limp body unto her legs.
'Hey.' She softly tapped his cheeks at first. But he didn't respond so she grew more desperate slapping him harder and harder until Osei, Clarissa and Cayden separated her from his body.
'No!' She screamed.
'Leave me!' She sounded even foreign to her ears, like a mad woman. She scratched at the hands that dragged her from him desperately needing to close the ever growing gap between her and Nicholae.
'Cole I forgive you, now please wake up.' She shouted at him. But he didn't hear her because he didn't stir from his unconscious state. Valentina shook her head, she would not call him dead, he wasn't dead. Not until she said so.
The idiot had so much to make up for in their lives, so many questions to answer. He just had to live.
Osei and Cayden carried the body to the den with Valentina still hysterically sobbing on Liza's back.
'Take him to your room.' Semi ordered Osei.
'I have everything set up and Fauna is here already.' She said to Clarissa who was halfway up the stairs.
Valentina slipped down following them.
'No Val. You'll only be in our way.'
Semi's words only registered as nonsense to her. He needed her by his side.
'Liza, she doesn't cross the threshold.'
Valentina was ready to take on Semi and all the wolves if need be and Semi could see that written all over her face and her stance.
'If there's a chance we could save his life Val, let's try without any distractions. Please.'
She didn't follow Semi into the cabin. She absolutely wanted, was dying to go in to the room: Every fiber of her being nagged her to.
Since she couldn't do that, she settled for sitting on the ground where she stood and weeping until someone walked out and told her Nicholae was dead.
Her nerves were frazzled, her heart was broken and her mind was numb with pain and regret.
Life was about to snatch away an opportunity she had taken for granted. Damn that idiot he coined the phrase 'you don't know what you have until it's gone'.
'It's going to be alright.'Danielle cooed beside her. 'Come here.'
Valentina held on to her for dear life because she was afraid that she'd fall apart right there in front of the cabin with all the wolves watching her mourn her would-be loss.
Danielle rocked her back and forth repeating over and over that it'll be okay. Valentina clung to those words, she needed faith that by some miracle, he would be okay and never again would she take her time with him for granted. This was a promise she made to his Catholic God.
They remained like that till the sun inched its way up to the gloomy skies. No creature made a sound, allowing Valentina to be.
