27. At the Banquet

The rest of the guests  were ushered into the great hall. The music was reached the corners of the manor, all except Fauna's little hiding place where Valentina was sleeping in.

Fauna greeted the guests she couldn't avoid pushing through the masses until she reached her destination.
As expected the doors were guarded two men and Erik stood right outside.

'Fauna.' He elegantly greeted. He showed her the same respect he gave the other guests and that was a refresher.
Fauna smiled at the sweet butler.
'His Lordship Nicholae asked me to be at his side but I was held up.'

'You know when the talks begin the doors don't open.' He reminded her.
Just then Ivan Tchkovsky cleared his throat.

'Step out of the way.' He haughtily ordered them.
'I'm afraid Her Ladyship asked you to attend to other duties?'

'Most of the important guest have arrived and my wife will handle the rest. Need I remind you who answers to whom.' He added at the end of his rant.

Erik, to avoid further commotion, stepped aside and allowed Ivan in.
He gestured for Fauna to quickly follow and then closed the door behind them.

She easily spotted Nicholae. No one could have missed the two large wolves in the room and also she couldn't miss his freaky aura.

But Sonya and a few others returned to the room before she had the chance to talk to Nicholae.

'I've spoken to the Alpha and his mate. Georgina?'
Sonya signaled to Georgina Cornelius to speak.

'I've decided that my clans men and I will align ourself with their pack.'

The room came alive with frustrated growls. Mostly on the Lynch clan side.

'Obviously I don't speak for my husband but I hope I speak for my brother.'
Her brother gave her his nod of approval.

'I Sonya Tchkovsky, do not align house Tchkovsky with the pack, however I will honor the pledges my great nephew made to Osei Lynch. A pact will be made for them. But this isn't the end of this discussion.'

This was politics Nicholae sighed, he wouldn't let the anger in him erupt, that would be self-defeating. So he looked at the positive side, they had a sensible ally in the Lynch clan. No offense to Cayden.

'You can't make this decision for all of us.'
Ivan barked.
Sonya didn't even acknowledge him but Nicholae did.

'Papa? Don't be stupid and try to understand what she said. It doesn't affect you.'

The young man beside Sonya spoke next.
'The dragons will not give their support.'

Nicholae hoped he didn't look as constipated as he felt. He wasn't sure if he could call this a win or a lose because , damn, did it feel like one.

'The new pact remains open for those who would want to join eventually.' Nicholae spoke after Sonya was finished.
He was not giving up.

Nicholae stood beside Osei and whispered something to him before he left the room.

Fauna went after him.
'My Lord.' She called after him in the hallway.
His face held a slight green tinge.

'Fauna? Where have you been?' He asked her when she stood in front of him.

'My Lord, Valentina is awake.'

Nothing.
Black nothingness. It was cold and void.
Valentina couldn't call it a dream or a nightmare.
It was both because it was neither.
