"I've never seen you without your work clothes on," Steve commented, leaning on his bike as I walked outside. I splayed my hands out by my sides and spun slowly on my heel. I heard a chuckle escape his lips.
I was only wearing a faded grey Hanes shirt and light jeans, but he made me feel like it was more.
Suddenly, the mood turned somber. "Steve, I'm sorry. I haven't told anyone about me and my situation. I wasn't keeping it from you because I wanted to."
"What else can you do?" He asked, looking at the ground.
"Telekinesis and molecular immobilization." I shrugged. "Basic witch spells, potions, that kind of stuff."
Steve's handsome scrunched slightly and he crossed his arms across his chest. "You're a witch?" When I nodded, he just looked up at the sky, a sarcastic smile dusting his features.
"You're telling me you don't believe in witches when you are a smoking hot 95 year old super soldier that just got defrosted from a glacier last year?" I crossed my arms as well, suddenly defensive. A grin turned up a corner of his mouth.
"Smoking hot?" He inquired and I huffed, feeling my cheeks turn red.
"You know Rogers, you are very hot and cold with me today." I took a step towards him so I was a little closer than where a friend would be. "First, you flatter a girl for a month and a half, make her feel special, you find out her life secret and then take her in for questioning and after that, do that stupidly adorable grin!" My voice had exasperation in it, but I was wearing an open mouthed smile.
"You think it's adorable?" He asked again, dipping his head slightly. I shoved his shoulder playfully, but he didn't move an inch. "Mae, I don't want to do this. I wish it could go back to when you were just a pretty waitress at Pattie's and I was a regular guy that came in everyday just to see you." He rubbed the back of his neck, realizing what he just said. "But I can't, that's not the way I function."
"Pretty waitress?" I poked his chest and he smiled down at me.
"Nothing bad is going to happen to you, you just need to be known to S.H.E.I.LD. That's all I ask for." I looked deep into his eyes to find anything that could tell me what he was saying was a lie. But just as always, those baby blues told nothing but the truth.
"Okay," I poked a finger into the center of his chest. "I'm trusting you, Rogers. Don't let me down."
Hesitantly, he reached up and ever-so-lightly placed his hand on mine. "I won't." He just smiled at me. "Things aren't so bad,"

I didn't know I had a fear of riding until I was placed on the back of a motorcycle clutched onto Steve for dear life. He went fast, which I don't know why I expected anything other than that. It was nothing like the movies, there were bugs and my hair kept whipping in my eyes.
If we're going to be honest, I don't know why the girls in movies look so happy when they're doing it.
Of course it was romantic when Steve gave me a helmet, and the way he made sure I was secure and the fact that he grabbed the inside of my knees and pulled me closer to him so I was flush against his back---
Okay, so it was romantic and I loved every second of it.
Once we get to S.H.E.I.LD., I feel my worries pop back up again. Steve, of course, notices and puts a hand on my lower back, leading me through the sea of people. I felt safe with Steve, but there were eyes on me I didn't like.
"Why are they looking at me?" I whispered to him and he grinned.
"They probably think you're my girl." His eyes gleamed and I elbowed him in the side. "Maybe connecting the dots of why I slip out of work every morning."
I looked up at him quizzically. "You leave work to go to Pattie's?"
"Yeah, there's this waitress there who's really kind to me." Steve's voice was lowered as we shared a look while stepping into the elevator. "Pretty cute."
"There you go with that hot and cold thing, Rogers." I turned my head forward, still fully aware of his hand on my back still.
"Director Fury's office," Steve said and the elevator went upwards. "I think I'm being pretty warm to you."
"You're bringing me to inevitable death and spreading my multi-generation long family secret, but hey, it's okay, you called me cute and let me ride your motorcycle. Everything is a-ok!" I hissed and gave him an enthusiastic thumbs up.
He took his hand away from my back as the elevator stopped. "You're going to be alright. I'm making sure of it. Just follow my lead and everything will be fine."
I gave him a tiny salute and he cracked a smile, heading into the room. I followed silently and watched as Nicholas Fury stood from his desk.
"Why, Captain, I didn't expect to see you till tonight's mission," His one unpatched eye slid past Steve's broad build and locked eyes with me. "And I see you brought a guest."
"It was an emergency, Nick." This was a version of Steve I hadn't seen before. It was all work, hands behind his back, shoulders squared and chin high. "I think I found someone that might interest you."
"Now, Cap, you know I'm a little old for the dating game."
I snickered and Steve bowed his head, a smile turning up at his features. "No, nothing like that." He stepped aside and gestured with his hand. "Show him what you can do, Maeve."
"Well, I'm not a circus clown, Steve, I'd like to introduce myself." I shot him a look as I offered my hand to the Director. "Maeve Stirling, sir, big fan."
Humor slid onto Nick's features as we shook hands. "Thank you, Miss Stirling. Fiesty one, aren't ya?"
"I take great pride in that, sir." I shot him a smile as I straightened my back. "I'm a Stirling witch, sir. I can freeze time and move things with my mind."
"I'd like to see that, Miss Stirling."
"Ah, see Steve? Something we nice folk call manners." I teased and he rolled his eyes, a handsome smile on his face. "Anyway," I swept my hand to the right and moved Fury's whole desk to the other side of his large office, making his one eye nearly pop out of his head.
"Goddamn, Cap."
