"So, how was it?"
Miruko asked about his date. The other heroes were curious about the details as well. Hawks lied through his teeth. There was no way he could explain how chaotic it was. "It's a normal date. We had dinner, talked and then went home. Nothing interesting."
Kamui was surprised. "Really? I thought you would do something more extravagant."
Hawks chuckled. "She likes Cinderella. A woman who wants a break from her duties to attend a fun ball. I'm just a man to accompany her before she returns at midnight."
Best Jeanist smiled at his description. "That makes you her Prince Charming. I thought you were just playing around."
Hawks lifted his shoulder. "I'm always a romantic at heart."
One of the staff members entered the room and told him that someone was looking for him. Hawks went downstairs and saw Fuyumi standing in the lobby. She bowed as she gave him an expensive cake. "I'm sorry for my embarrassing behaviour and for my family!"
Hawks was not angry. He had watched the family drama unfold, taken many clandestine photos and seen a heartwarming resolution to their conflict. But the people around them might not see it that way. He did not want to start another rumour.
"It's okay! Please lift your head. Besides, I messed up, too. This is fair for both of us."
Fuyumi still felt bad for involving Hawk in her problem. She hoped there was a way to pay him back. A particular idea crossed their minds. Thinking about it made her blush. Hawk noticed how red her face was.
"Are you all right? I hope you're not getting sick from yesterday..."
Before he could continue, Fuyumi pulled at his arms.
She gave him a little peck on the cheek.
"Thank you, Keigo."
After that, Fuyumi turned around. Then she ran away as fast as she could, embarrassed and ashamed. Hawks was speechless. He touched his left cheek, still feeling her lips on it. He pinched himself, wondering if it was reality or a dream. After confirming the truth, the man beamed with happiness. He shouted out his joy.
It may have been a wrong move, but the reward was worth it.
