Alex POV
————————
I'm directed to the "Male Quarters" and I stand silently in rows with the other males of district two. If a little paranoid, I was specifically told by my family not to take any tessera, where you voluntarily enter you name into the reaping bowl in exchange for food to support you. I did it four times, one for each member of my family. Trinity, district two's escort, walks onto our town's marble stage to pronounce this years tributes. I don't understand. She's so exited to decide the fate of two innocent children. "Hello, and welcome to District Two's Reaping for the annual Hunger Games!" She shouts way too enthusiastically. "Lets get started, Ladies first!" With that she speed walks over to a clear glass bowl containing the names for the female tributes. She picks out a white piece of paper and reads off the name. "This years Female Tribute, will be.." she opens the paper "Alexandra Keoleian!" I hear a couple gasps from the female section and a young girl, about my age, walk away from the female quarters, and join Trinity on the stage. "What a lovely contestant!" she looks over towards "Alexandra" and then continues. "And now, for the Male Tribute!" She rushes over to the male bowl, and adrenaline is pumped my through me. "And this years Male Tribute is.." I hold my breath "Alexander Nibarger!" I felt like I was going to collapse. I walk slowly, and eventually join Trinity and Alexandra on stage.Ali POV
———————-
I hear Trinity call my name out, and fear consumes me. I hold my breath and try to seem strong, fearless, and join her on stage. She they rushed over to the bowl containing the possible male tributes, and she announces my district partner. His name is apparently "Alexander" and not even a moment he steps away and makes his way to the stage, I immediately recognize him as the boy I say earlier when I was fishing. After we are officially announced as the two "lucky" people who will be on the death march with 22 others, we are directed by peacekeepers into our "farewell rooms." It's beautiful, leather seating and paintings decorate the room. A couple minutes later, Logan, and both my parents rush in, tears streaming down my mothers's face, while my brother and father remain strong, but are still obviously sad to see my chances of ever seeing them again. They all start saying there farewell, and are directed out again. Finally, what I've been waiting for. I get to actually know my district buddy. We both walk out of our farewell rooms and are directed onto the train which will transfer us to the capital. I sit down, and he joins me. "Hey, Alexandra, is that it?" He uncomfortably states. "Just call me Ali" I respond, not even bothering to tell him it WAS Alexandra. He does the same thing to me, telling me to simply call him Alex. He's nice, but definitely knows when and when not to joke and have fun. We spend a lot of time talking about our futures, and eventually come to promise. If he wins the games and I die, he promises to look after my family, I his. After this, our mentors, Enobaria and Brutus, send us to bed to assure we are prepared for tomorrow, when we reach the capital. When I lie in bed, only one thought goes through my head. Do we even stand a chance?
