A/N: The music is mainly what I listen to while writing.

A few minutes later, Kari and I were ready for school and Dad sent us on our way with a map so he could recline with a coffee. He always says it's to teach us independence, and if Kari is a werewolf too, then it's important for us both to be independent, but one time I stayed behind and caught Dad relaxing on the sofa with a coffee in his hand.

If I ever need to blackmail him, I have footage.

I don't think I'll ever need to though.

So Kari and I (look at my good grammar readers, mmhmm) followed the map, and walked to our new school, Dragonoak High, where I would be starting year 9, and Kari year 7.

At last we passed through the arch at the front of the school grounds. Kari looked around nervously.

"Where are our classes? Do you know?" she asked anxiously.

I ruffled her hair, earning a "Hey!!" free of charge! "I have no idea." I answered, shrugging. "But I think that's a teacher over there, so let's go ask her about it."

I took a few steps forwards, Kari at my heels, but before we could go that far, someone rammed into me. I stumbled back, but Kari caught me and pushed me forwards so I caught my balance again.

The person who had knocked me over revealed themselves to be a blond guy, looking remarkably angry. I had never actually seen someone's face turn that exact tomatoesque shade of red before.

"Watch where you're going, you dark-skinned FREAK!" he yelled.

My skin, and the skin of my family, is not actually that dark. If he wanted to insult something about me that was dark, he could've chosen my hair, or maybe my mood when someone insults me. I was about to put a hand on my chest and say something heartfeltly snarky, but Kari beat me to it.

"I hope your favourite book gets turned into a movie, and the characters are nothing like you expected them to be!" Kari snarled at the guy, then, taking my arm in a symbol of let's-leave-now, she said, "Let's go, sis." and we walked away from the bamboozled guy.

I heard clapping, and looked around, and spotted a girl sitting a low-hanging tree branch, applauding Kari's skill with bookworm insults. I walked over.

"Hello." I said, shading my eyes to look up at her. "Who're you?"

The girl dropped down from the branch she had been resting on. "I'm Forest. Forest Drake." she said, and we shook hands.

"I'm Okami, and this is-" I began.

"I'm Hikari-Daku, but call me Kari," Kari said, and, placing a hand on her chest, bowed formally.

Forest laughed. "Alright! I can now report to my Mum that my mission to meet new people was a success! But seriously though - Kari, you just insulted the biggest, baddest, most cliche guy here - Jaxxon Diaz."

Kari shrugged. "I meant what I said." she said nonchalantly.

I sighed, trying to figure out where the author was taking this. "I'd BETTER not fall in love with him. Or else."
