Keith hopped into the dark sedan and was once again booted to the backseat, but this time by Bebe. She called shotgun almost immediately after exiting the meeting room, so there wasn't much arguing to be done. The car was sweltering from being in the sun for a prolonged period of time and he tugged at his suit collar, trying not to die in the heat as he looked at recent posts on his phone.
The team sat in mildly awkward silence for most of the trip. It wasn't too uncomfortable, per say, but it definitely wasn't happy or content; there was an serious tone to it if there was such a thing.
The car arrived at the movie set pretty quickly compared to the traffic they had faced earlier in the day. Once he stepped out of the hot vehicle, he had to crane his neck to look up at the full production building; he squinted his eyes to avoid the sun and try to take it all in.
The driver of their car, a medium man who wasn't that much taller than Keith, opened the door and allowed the cool air from the conditioning inside to stream out and onto their faces as they entered the modern-looking lobby. It wasn't anything too special, with mild decorations and a few fern plants dotting the scenery.
There wasn't anyone at the front desk, so Keith and the girls took it as an invitation to continue through the heavy-set doors near the rear of the room as the driver headed back out towards the car.
As the doors were pushed open by Maddie, Keith struggled not to suck in a breath of air at the sight of it all.
It seemed impossible for so much stuff to be going on at a time, but there was. They were in a giant room that was divided up into different scenes and filming productions. Keith could see about a hundred or more people doing everything there was to be done, all at the same time, in just the limited sight that he had. It was kinda amazing to see the bustling crowd of hurried people all rushing off to do whatever whenever. He scanned the crowd to find someone in charge; there was so much happening that nobody noticed the trio yet.
After a couple seconds a lady with a clipboard and headset walked up to them. She was short and stoutly and looked like every cliche boss from any movie.
"Who are you?" She asked like she couldn't care less and care more at the same, annoyed time.
Bebe opened her mouth to reply, but was interrupted by the lady turning yelling at the top of her lungs.
"DONNIVAN, I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU DO NOT MOVE THOSE LIGHTS INTO STORAGE YOU WILL BE FIRED."
Bebe and Keith shared a look. Maddie looked like she had half a mind to cover her ears.
She turned back to the agents after startling the younger-looking light technician who must've been Donnivan. "Sorry about that." She smiled a type of crocodile smile that seeped bad vibes.
"Who did you say you were again?"
Keith, now mildly annoyed, held up his creds. "Keith Kogane with the F.B.I."
Maddie and Bebe held up theirs, too.
"We're here to investigate the recent murders involving Francis Klenn and other young stars."
The woman pursed her lips, a struggle apparent in her eyes. She then smiled, sweeter this time, turning in a complete 180 from her attitude before.
