The History of the Brotherhood of Guardians

“It was I who gave the Brotherhood its name! I felt it was time for unity amongst the Guardians, so I created the Brotherhood and we made out home the sacred Haven! We came to watch over our world, along with Angel Island”, Rembrandt said as I stared a hole into him. I didn't like being a Guardian, having my life decided before I was born. I wanted to live the life of a normal teen and have relationships and hang out... things that regular teens do everyday. I wanted that for myself my entire life.

“Rembrandt was the only Guardian before Locke to have more than one child. Aaron and Jordan are his sons and because of what Aaron did, they had to change the structure of the Brotherhood to the way it is now”, Athair said as Rembrandt went back to his seat.

“So it was him that created the Brotherhood huh?”, I said in a low voice. “He was the man that created the very thing I detest with all my heart and soul. Because of him, I was robbed of a childhood, a real life. Instead, I had to be the clone of my father that he always wanted. Can't I just live a normal life like my brothers did?”

“Ah, you have the Guardian's Curse I see! Do not worry great-grandson, every one of these fine men and woman had the Curse like you do; they wanted to live normal lives but they had to put their duty before their personal desires and for it, they have gone down in the history books as incredible Guardians”, Athair said to me.

“So, every Guardian was like me? They all wanted freedom?”

“All but one; me. I was released from my duty very early in my tenure for I had a greater destiny to fulfill from the gods. I did not develop the curse; therefore, my outlook on life is far brighter than any Guardian to have ever lived.”

I nodded and absorbed it all in as I looked at the man next to Rembrandt; he stood up and as I looked at him, a feeling of strength, confidence, and grief overtook my body. He had a strong look in his eyes as he was dressed in a muscle shirt, a black open-chested vest, the Guardian Gloves, black pants, and grey boots I wondered why I felt these things from staring at this man. I fidgeted in my seat as the man began to talk.

“Hello Luigi, my name is Aaron. Just like you Luigi, I made the ultimate sacrifice to protect my people. I gladly gave up my life to stop a missile attack by Menniker and the Legion”, Aaron spoke to me directly. “I saw the Legion had combined forces with the Akitoki Clan and has launched a missile at the island. I tried using the skills that my grandfather Harlan taught me, but Menniker jumped on the missile and fought with me. Luckily, Menniker was quite stupid and almost immediately told me how to disarm it by pressing a switch. In sheer defiance and pride in what I did, I pressed it, blowing us both up. I know that dad grieved over my death and changed the way the Brotherhood was run, but I know that, deep down, he knew I did the right thing.”

I looked into his black eyes and saw the regret for the pain he put his father through. I wonder if my father is grieving right now.... I watched Arron sit down as I looked at the man sitting next to him; that must be Jordan.

“Jordan was the first of the Guardians to be forced to survive on his own as an early age. He had to fight though the wildlife in the forests of the island. I t wasn't easy for him, I suspect. He was the one who forced his father to get past the grief of Aaron's death and focus on the future.”, Athair explained to me.

I sat with a blank stare as I remembered everything I had to do while I was learning to fend for myself; all of the cold, lonely nights I had to endure as a part of my Guardian Training. There were days I would cry for my mom or dad or brothers, but I knew I was all alone and I had to survive or else I would die in the wilderness and no on would know...
