I hope you guys like the little twist in the middle of this chapter! 😜😂💕**3RD PERSON POV*
*One Month Later*
John and Freddie returned from their stay in Munich to the news of Queen being asked to perform in Live Aid. All the lads were more than keen to do something for charity, knowing how desperately the people of Ethiopia needed help with the horrible situation they'd been forced into. After getting home, Freddie went to see Dr Grant about his spots, and they were confirmed to be the Kaposi sarcoma associated with AIDS. The singer had to have more blood taken and went through another round of tests with the doctor to see how advanced his illness was becoming. He'd told John, the pair talking about it before agreeing to not tell Brian and Roger until after their performance at the event. They couldn't risk fucking up something so important, not only to them as a band, but to the cause they were raising money for. John tried hard to push away his emotions whenever Freddie was around, not wanting to show how much he was hurting at the thought of losing his husband. Him being upset all the time wasn't going to do anything but make Freddie feel guilty, and that was something John didn't want. Freddie shouldn't feel like this was his fault, and the bassist already knew he did, so he wanted to do all he could to reverse that."I think we should do something different." Roger spoke up with a shrug as the band sat around the May's dining table. The four of them had to come up with a set list of sorts to perform at the show the following weekend, and it was beginning to be a whole lot more difficult than they'd originally thought.
"We can't do different lovey." Freddie argued, waving his cigarette around. "People are going to want to know the songs we play so they can sing along. If we don't do the originals, then half of them won't bloody know them." He said seriously, taking a drag as the others took in his opinion.
"I agree with Fred." Brian nodded. "We can't just break out something they won't know. We need to stick to the singles." He nodded, taking a sip of his tea.
"Older singles?" John quizzed, looking between the pair.
"A mix of the old and the new." Brian answered.
"Bo Rhap for sure then." Roger added in with a nod, flicking some ash from his own cigarette into a tray on the table.
"We'll be eaten alive if we don't play that." John chuckled in agreement.
"Well, we have one song then." Freddie sighed, sinking lower in his seat. His mind wasn't fully committed to their "group meeting" (as Brian had called it) as he was more focused on the dinner him and John would be having at his parents house later that evening. It had been a while since he'd visited the Bulsara household, not since before the Joshua dramas, and he was anxious to see what they'd have to say about it.
"We'll have to play Radio Gaga." Roger shrugged, John and Brian nodding, knowing how popular that song had been on their last tour.
"Crazy Little Thing?" John suggested.
"A fan favourite." The lanky man nodded again, seeming to agree.
"What do you think Fred?" John asked. "Fred?" He quizzed, nudging his partner when he didn't seem to notice him the first time.
"Hmm?" Freddie hummed, snapping out of his thoughts to look up at his husband.
"You okay?" John frowned, sending Freddie a look of concern as he nodded quickly.
"Of course darling!" He smiled, waving him off as he sat up again, pulling out yet another cigarette. John kept his frown, something about Freddie was off for him today, but he couldn't figure out what. He'd been distracted ever since his mother had called them over for dinner, and it was only getting worse the more the time to go crept closer. He was worried he'd disappointed his family. He'd already changed his name, he didn't want to let them down again over a dumb mistake.
