We move all of our boxes from the cart to our room and begin to unpack. Everything is beginning to come together, and the room looks more and more like the Pinterest dorm rooms I wanted it to look like. Henry has hung up some pendant lights and many of our frames with command hooks. Kira altered the hight of our beds and changed the duvet covers and sheets.
I know I sound like one of those prissy prima donnas, but the room was so dusty and filthy that I HAD to wipe everything down.
"Oh come on. Why are you such a germ-freak." Paige laughs mockingly. I scowl at her and throw the pack of Clorox disinfecting wipes at her gently.
"Honey Richard wants me to meet him down at the old country club. He knows I'm here in Massachusetts to drop off Paige and McKenna, so he asked me if we could do a little reunion with the others." I don't know who Richard is, but he sounds like a great family friend to the McCauley's.
"Oh really. That would be nice if you and the guys could get a reunion. It's been so long since you all have been together, and certainly at the country club. I didn't even know the place still existed," I can see the glimpse of happiness in Kiras eyes as she looks back to the time of her youth.
"But I told him we're only here in Cambridge for the girl's sake." I can tell Henry is trying to conceal his disappointment, and I feel bad for him. I don't want him to break off a reunion with his old friends, just because he's helping Paige and I hang up some pendant lights. But I don't want Paige to be sad if her parents leave, trust me I've felt that feeling before at it's not pleasant.
"Dad don't be silly. Go spend some time with Richard and whoever. I know you haven't seen them in while since we moved to Florida. So drop the command hooks, and go see them," Paige encourages.
I'm so proud of her, I know it took a lot of strength in her to say that, but she did it to make her dad happy.
"Sweetheart are you sure? We don't want to leave you on your first day here." Kira remarks with watering eyes.
"I'm sure," Paige replies, and they all go in for a big hug. I just stand there awkwardly, looking at them like I was watching the end of one of those sappy family movies.
I wish my life was a sappy family movie too, but all I get is one big messy soap opera.
"Girls if anythings wrong call us, we're only at downtown Cambridge so we aren't that far away. And If your in need of any money then text Henry, he'll send you some." Henry laughs at his wife and puts his arm around her waist.
"We'll visit you in some days or maybe next week. And if you need any money then text Kira. Most of her money is mine, so it doesn't matter who sends it if it's all coming from the same place." Kira sighs dramatically and rolls her eyes.
"I am a hard-working woman who makes her own money." Kira snaps at her husband jokingly. "You just indirectly called me a golddigger,"
"I'm just joking honey. I know how hard you're working, by picking out random bizarre furniture for some rich clients."
"Oh bring it on. I'm an interior designer, not some Ikea worker. And besides what do you even do, the only thing you do is sit around at your office drinking coffee, and draw blueprints."
What's happening? Are they legit roasting each other's jobs? I know they are just joking, cause people would kill to have their jobs. Like who doesn't want to be an interior designer or an engineer.
"Okay, okay stop the roast battle. This was supposed to be our sentimental goodbye," Paige breaks in laughingly.
"Well make sure to call you if anything wrong. And we'll miss you too," I tell them reassuringly.
