Melissa's POV
She had just finished with her second therapy and we were going back home. Since the last time Niall visited us, Annie was positive and just like every other day before she got diagnosed. It was like nothing ever happened and there was not even one time that I saw her crying. I was happy that she was optimistic, that she didn't let herself to depression or anything like giving up and getting miserable.
"I love when you smile, you do that everyday and I'm truly happy, because you're strong." I told her, hugging her with my one arm and walking.
She smiled, looking at the pavement, not responding to what I had just expressed.
"I don't like breaking promises," she looked at me for a moment and I watched as her eyes blinked momentarily.
She must have given a promise to Niall; I immediately thought.
"I know," I replied, thoughtful.
Annie is a good girl, a girl that has suffered a variety of psychological and mental pain in her life. I understood she wasn't fine inside, but she just had to pretend she was to make us feel less concerned about her. However, I knew what was really going on and always kept a smile in my lips; she was a fighter, a real one and I couldn't feel more proud.
"Annie," I called her out another day. I was laying on the couch, watching some of these gossip TV shows, just to spend my time. I needed to tell her that no matter how hard something may be, things do can change as long as you believe in it. I was inspired by a woman that was on the news and did the unlikely likely, beating a serious form of cancer. She should hear her out and feel strong-er.
"Annwwieee," I said a little more louder. Usually, she would come or tell me something loudly, but as it was obvious, it wasn't just like the other days.
I stood up and got upstairs, where her bedroom was. She always heard me when I was calling her out from the living room, which was just some meters away from the stairs. So, there's no way she didn't hear me out.
I knocked at the door, but I had no response, just like the second, third and fourth time I did the same thing. I decided to open without considering her 'bedroom privacy manners'.
She was sitting on the floor, in front of a small yet large mirror. Where did she even find this?! I thought we hadn't any other mirror, as we had already replaced them with some pretty framed photos of ours, just to remind her that she was and still is beautiful. I didn't want Annie to see herself during this period of her life. I knew it would break her to see how pale she got after every chemotherapy, how skinny she was as she had lost much weight. Well, she could see it on her own, but a mirror is a mirror and didn't really help that time.
