As we sat down to have dinner, grana started talking about the new neighbors that came here to spend the holidays or something. I didn't really pay attention to that, I was otherwise preoccupied by the thoughts of Nate. He was a bit rude and arrogant, but he somehow was sweet in a way I guess. I don't know what it was but I wanted to know more about him, what types of books did he use to read? What was he doing in that cafe? Who gave him that book? But I'm not going to see him again, I don't even know where he lives and most importantly he is a stranger so it's pointless and ridiculous to think about it.After dinner I went to bed. When I woke up I got ready and went into the kitchen. There was a note by grana that she was going to the store to get some things and there was breakfast ready on the table, so I ate and headed out to water the plants outside. I don't know what I'm going to do today, I usually go to the cafe or just watch TV but today I'm not in the mood for either of them.
Just when I finished watering the rose plant I heard a weird sound coming from the house next to ours. It was a fluttering sound of wings, maybe some kind of birds? I went over the gate and the sound increased. When I looked at the house it was a big house, not too big but a medium sized house almost like a mini mansion. There was a concrete and wooden fence around it. I haven't noticed anyone around there for many years, so I assumed it was an abandoned vacation house.
When I thought about going home, I heard the noise again. Maybe some birds are trapped inside? I can't leave the birds in there, what if they don't find a way to get out. But that house must be locked, how will I get in? I can't even ignore it and go home without feeling restless. I pushed the gate to see that it wasn't locked after all.
Okay, I'm not leaving those innocent creatures until I know they are fine. After making my mind I walked up to the door. When I tried to open it, I was surprised that it wasn't locked. Did the owners even know that there was something called thief, who can break into the house and steal stuff. Well, I'm doing that right now, but I'm not a thief.
When I went inside it didn't look like an abandoned place, there was furniture in the house. The place was messy and dusty, like no one has bothered to move the furniture. But it wasn't too old. I looked around a little and followed the sound.
There was a big box in the corner of the living room. I went near and saw that it was a wooden box in which there were a pair of doves. One of them was flapping its wings as if trying to fly. When I looked there was a container of water and seeds inside the box. There was a window just near the box. If they wanted to fly away, they could have easily done that. So why weren't they? I suddenly heard someone behind me and I froze.
"Who the hell are you?"
