Grayson Gordon was strolling through his high school halls and clutching his folders to his chest. Nothing in his life had prepared him for the torment and depression of high school but he had to go anyway.
From being bullied because of his less than average height to being bullied for simply being smart. Not to mention that he was extremely easy to pick on for his calm nature.
Then he was shoved by Max Bennet, the basketball team captain.
"Easy there, freak. Wouldn't want to fall and embarrass yourself and ruin your budding popularity. Oh, wait!" Then Max and his teammates laughed at him and pointed fingers.
Everyone else in the hallway followed suit.
Grayson wasn't phased. He got up and dusted off his big shirt and baggy sweatpants. This time, he noted, Max managed to break his glasses. "Just great," he huffed and then angrily walked over to his next class.
Grayson tried to work out at the gym but he was just too physically weak. Every time he tried to lift anything over 40 lbs. he'd fall exhausted to the ground. If that wasn't bad enough, Max and a few of his goons were at the gym that day and made fun of him even more for it.
Max is a simpleton who feeds off of others distress and feeds his ego with it. Not that he could come up with that word.
Grayson has been bullied ever since he went to Cincinnati High at 14 years old and already in 9th grade. People saw him as a smart kid. And he was smart which is why he moved up a grade, but clearly not smart enough to stand up for himself.
Grayson that day was pushed down in the hallway and humiliated in front of all his peers, but he had no idea what would happen to him next.
He arrived in his math class and took his seat in the 2cd row, middle seat. The perfect view of the whiteboard in front of the class. Also the perfect view of Lea Hissim who was in the first row, second middle seat. He sighed and watched the girl he longed to have, scribble in her notebook. It was satisfying for him to watch her toss the falling hair out of her eyes. She was head of the photography club. To everyone else her work was average, but Grayson fell in love with each and every photo she took.
She looked back unexpectedly and caught Grayson's eye. Grayson was in great grief when she only looked upset at his staring and looked away. Grayson decided to put his attention back where it should've been.
"That's okay, mom. I will walk home today. Have a good shift." Yes, his mother did have to work extra shifts to provide for Grayson and his 1 year younger brother Sam.
Sam goes to a different school in the city. After learning of Grayson's bullying his mother had to take Sam out of CHS to avoid him getting bullied too. But Grayson was just doing so good at CHS so she couldn't take him out.
He hung up on the phone after she said goodbye and then he began walking again.
He stopped at a crosswalk and waited until the cars stopped. Then he put in a good few steps into the street until-
Max pulled him back. Grayson looked up in horror and saw 3 more of his friends smiling a little bit too mischievously.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Boys, I think we've got something to take care of."
"Yeah, a stain that needs getting rid of." Tyler Ramirez, the point guard, said and rose a brow.
"I agree," Max said.
Gray felt his lip pathetically quiver in slight fear. The next thing he knew he was being picked up by four toys and being dragged somewhere.
"Gray," Max drawled out his name.
