I'd never been the kind of girl to wear her heart on her sleeve. In fact, I was quite the opposite. I'd keep everything dangerously bottled up inside of me, fake a smile to the world, until I broke down at night in the darkness and cried for hours on end. I guess now was just the usual. I slumped against the wall, slowly sliding down and pulling my knees to my chest as I hit the hard, laminate flooring. My chest felt heavy,

the room around me blurry until I blinked away the pool of salty tears in my eyes, and everything fell into focus. I hugged my knees to my chest so tightly that my knuckles slowly turned a ghastly shade of white, and I rocked myself back and forth. I gulped for a breath through my sobs as I wiped my stinging eyes with my palms. I felt empty and isolated, like I'd been swallowed up into a vast abyss of despair. Shakily, I reached for my phone as I dialled his number. There was only one person who I felt like I could face right now.

"Lily?" the deep, familiar voice said on the other end of the line.

"Evan," I began, but I immediately broke down into tears.

"Fuck. Lily? What's wrong?" he asked. I sobbed uncontrollably. "Lily, talk to me." He sounded panicked and urgent.

"Reece," I stuttered. My voice was shaky as I clasped the phone to my ear desperately.

"Lily, stay there. I'm coming over. Don't move, don't do anything. Just stay there," he said quickly before hanging up.

I dropped the phone on the floor beside me. I reached up to touch my throbbing nose, but gasped and quickly drew my hand back as the pain ripped through me. I burst out into another wave of uncontrollable tears as I gasped for air.

I waited for what felt like an eternity, but I finally heard the front door swing open. "Lily?" I heard his voice, frantic and urgent. I tried to speak, but my throat was tight and raw. Suddenly, the light flickered on, and I gasped, squinting through my blurry sight to adjust to it.

"Shit! What's happened?" he exclaimed. I rested my head back on the wall against me as I felt his strong grip on my wrists.

"Reece," I said shakily.

"You're bleeding," he stated sternly as he cupped my chin with his big hands and pulled my head upwards. I was?

He reached out to my nose, and I instantly retracted my head backwards as the sharp pain seared through my face.

"Did that asshole do this to you?" he said as he cupped my cheeks in his cold hands. I sucked in for air as I tried to find my words.

"I swear, I'll kill him. I'll fucking kill him," he said as he stood up.

"Don't," I sobbed as I reached for his wrist. I needed him. I needed him to stay, I didn't want him to leave me here. I couldn't make out his face through the pools of tears in my eyes.

"I'm not going anywhere. I'm here, Lily. It's okay, I'm not going. I'm here," he soothed as he slunk down onto the floor with me and pulled me into his arms. I fell into his big, strong embrace, inhaling his scent. He was warm, and I wrapped my arms around him as I cried. He rubbed my back gently, and I slowly fell apart in his arms.
