Silence filled my room.
Really? A button that doesn't do anything? I pressed it again and again but nothing happened. I sighed miserably and flopped down on the rug. Guess I'll have to put it back in the dump tomorrow. No wonder the previous owners got rid of it. It doesn't even work.
I sighed again. Nothing interesting ever happens to me. I have the most average life ever- I need some adventure and change. Everyday it's the same old job, same old people, same old schedule, same old me.
Since I'm going into a rant now, I might as well introduce myself.
My name is Evelyn Mouri, but it somehow got shortened to just Evly over time. That's what everyone calls me. I don't really care, to be honest. Evly is kind of a weird name, but I don't dislike it. I inherited most of my features from my father, so I look more American than Japanese. Dark brown hair, green eyes (probably my most significant feature), and an "annoying and reckless personality..." according to my friends. I'd rather they describe me as charming and outgoing though. Am I being biased?
I'm 17 years old, single, with only a few close friends and relatives. Luckily, my part-time job at the Steely Pet Clinic is well paid, so I can still afford rent and necessities. Barely. The truth is, I'm still living off of my parent's life insurance, and my aunt is helping me pay for school. Eventually, I hope I'll meet someone, settle down (somewhere that isn't my musty apartment), and get a better job. Hopefully.
I turned the lights off and crawled into bed. Tomorrow is June 7... I have to wake up at 6:00 a.m. again for work. I can't afford to be late again. I made sure my phone had my alarms set correctly before letting it charge on the nightstand.
I rolled over and closed my eyes, already drifting off to sleep. I couldn't help it, I'd just worked a full shift plus overtime. Even my thoughts were hazy.
I really wish I could defy the laws of the universe. Then I could go wherever I want and do whatever I want.
Behind me, unbeknownst to anyone (except to the readers...), the old TV's screen glitched to life for just a split second.
