So here I am, thinking that Saturday is the day to lay back and relax. Boy, was I wrong. Today was supposed to be my laid back, happy day. When I spend a few hours at Fuzzy Friends, go take a shower, play some video games, and sleep. My Saturday was no such thing. My Saturday was confusing and stressful.
I at least had the chance to go to Fuzzy Friends, though. Nikki came with me, and I was ecstatic. We played with some of the new stray puppies Grandma had found a week ago.
We did a monkey-in-the-middle sort of game with all of them, and I may be a guy, but it was honestly the cutest thing in the world. It was like a tiny stampede of baby dogs, squeaking when the ball went over their heads. The big ball of multiple furry things moved as one between Nikki and me whenever the ball moved.
Nikki had thrown the ball over my head. It only caught one pup's attention, so it went running after the ball and Nikki after the puppy. But before she gets the chance to pick it up, someone emerges from the back gate and gets the dog before Nikki does.
It was no other than MacKenzie Hollister. I didn't even know she knew about Fuzzy Friends.
"Hey, Brandon!" she squeals. She acknowledges Nikki in a much flatter way but smiles back at me. "Why aren't you ready for our date?"
"Date?" both Nikki and I say.
I stutter, "I– you never said anything about a–"
"Of course you don't remember! I mean if you did, would you wear something like that?" I was just about to say something, but Mackenzie kept on going. "Now hurry! Get ready. We were supposed to go right now! And I have reservations."
I tried to tell MacKenzie that I wouldn't have time to go home and change, but she claimed to have a tux that fit me perfectly in the limo. How she knows what size clothes I wear, I have no idea, and I'd rather not find out.
"What do you think? Snazzy enough for the Ice Queen?"
"Totally," Nikki said, very quickly too. She noticed it and blushed.
"I'll tell you how everything goes. See you on Monday, Nikki."
"Yeah." Then she walked out the door.
Surprising, right. I had never thought of seeing myself with Mackenzie Hollister. I feel she's too valley girl for me. Maybe things will change with this unexpected date.
I got into the limo with MacKenzie. And as soon as we got in there, she smothered me. She was so close that my neck started to sweat from her warm, minty breath. I personally was squirming around to make her get off, but MacKenzie just wouldn't let go of my arm. We sat like that for what seemed like forever.
When we got to the restaurant, I couldn't help but look at it in awe. There were Corinthians and the food there smelled like heaven. MacKenzie may be pretty mean, but had a bomb taste in restaurants. And you know how rich people food is really nasty and from different countries? Well this place was a straight up American fancy food. Maybe being with MacKenzie isn't really a bad thing. But it means nothing if I'm just in it for food... Okay maybe it means something. Just think about it: all I'd have to do is remember a few important dates on the calendar to make sure I don't forget anything, kiss her once in a while, and casually forget my wallet every so often on these dates. I'd be set. But that would be rude and shallow, and I'm not low enough to actually do something like that. Sooner or later MacKenzie is gonna have to get over me. She won't stay in a relationship if the feelings are one-sided... Will she?
