Beginning of the End

Third Person POV
At Mellark's Bakery are nine people, the best of friends. These people, from the first person and to the right, are Cato Hadley, all star athlete: football quarterback, top basketball scorer, and soccer forward. Sitting next to him is his girlfriend, Clove Kentwell. She too is an all star athlete. She's the volleyball team's setter, basketball team's point guard and top scorer, and the soccer team's top forward. Her best friend, Glimmer Belcourt, is the cheerleading team's captain and a defender on the soccer team. Her boyfriend, Marvel Sanford, is on the tennis team as a part of the number one double's team and a midfielder on the soccer team. Finnick Odair, flirt of the school is the running back on the football team and the best swimmer on the team. Annie Cresta, Finnick's long time crush, is also a cheerleader and on the swim team. Gale Hawthorne is also on the football team as a tight end and the baseball team's pitcher. His girlfriend, Madge Undersee, is another cheerleader and also a forward on the basketball team. The final boy, Peeta Mellark, is on the tennis team as Marvel's doubles partner and the soccer team's goalie. Cato and Gale are having a stare down and everyone is egging on who they want to win.

It's getting intense when all of a sudden Gale yells.

"Shit!" Gale yells as he breaks eye contact.

"Haha! Take that Hawthorne!" Cato yells in triumph.

"I knew you would win, babe," Clove says to Cato.

"When do I not?!" Cato asks, with a wink in Clove's direction.

"Oh, I can think of a few times," Clove says back with a mischievous smirk.

"Okayyyyyyyy, we do NOT need to hear about your sex lives, guys," Madge says.

"I was talking about when we play tic-tac-toe," Clove says with an innocent smile.

"Clove, that is such a bad lie," Peeta says while laughing.

"Oh, geez," Finnick says, looking anxiously at the door.

"What now, Fish Boy?" Madge asks with a teasing smirk.

"Nothing, as long as you don't take into account Johanna Mason coming our way," Finnick replies, not even paying attention to the nickname.

Johanna Mason was known as a bitch at Panem High School. At the start of their high school lives, Johanna had been a part of their group. But once she tried to get Cato to cheat on Clove with her, all hell broke loose. Everyone knew how in love the two were, including Johanna, but that didn't stop her. She had her eye on Cato and was pissed at Clove for supposedly stealing Cato from her. So, after Cato had refused to cheat on Clove with her, she chose to threaten Clove. She said that she'd torture Clove if he didn't go out with her, but luckily, Cato had called the cops and told them of the threat. Johanna was then put into juvie and her hatred of the group started.

"Oh look. It's Bitch #1 and #2!" Johanna says while looking at Clove and Glimmer.

"Mason, you're the only bitch here so I'd leave if I were you," Cato says with a snarl.

"Exactly. I wouldn't go around calling other people bitches when you're the true bitch," Marvel adds with an identical snarl.

"Are you two sure you aren't just their boy toys? We all know Bitch #2 here had a little stint with Gloss Nicholo last year," Johanna says back with a smirk.

"I'd stop with the lies if I were you, Mason. You just want attention because you regret trying to get with Cato freshman year," Clove snaps back, sticking up for her best friend.

"Oh, that's rich, coming from you. You're only with him because you want a popularity boost!" Johanna snarls back.

"That's it!" Clove yells, jumping out of her seat.

She starts running at Johanna, getting ready to tackle her. She definitely would have if it hadn't been for Cato pulling her back and into her lap.

"Hey, hey. She isn't worth it. If you would have attacked her, your parents' media coverage would have gotten even worse," Cato whispers into her ear. "Plus, I know you aren't with me because you want a popularity boost. You're the more popular of us and if you weren't, there's no way you wouldn't have fallen for my charm yet." After saying this, Cato gives her a light kiss on the lips and Clove gives a small smile.

"You're lucky I have a caring boyfriend who stops me from making decisions I'll regret later, Mason. Now leave before I do something else I'll regret," Clove snarls at her.

"Be that way, Kentwell. But know that I'll be back," Johanna replies with a smirk.

"I reallyyyyyy hate her," Glimmer says with a scowl.

"Yeah, why is she always going after Cato? There are plenty of single guys at school," Clove says.

"Who cares? It's summer vacation and we only have one month until senior year begins. I say we enjoy it!" Finnick adds.

The group agrees with Finnick and tries to figure out what to do. They end up choosing to head over to Malibu and use the Undersee's beach house.  There, they would meet someone who could change their lives.
