"Where the hell are the scales?" You shouted out into the apartment, not quite sure if your girlfriend, Alex, was home, but if she wasn't it wasn't as if there would be any witnesses to your shouting to yourself.
"Bathroom or kitchen," you heard the familiar voice call out from the bedroom.
"Kitchen, the bathroom ones always lie," you called back to her.
"Under the sink."
You grumbled to yourself about that not being their home but didn't want to let your foul mood be taken out on Alex as she hadn't done anything wrong as far as you knew anyway, other than putting the scales in the wrong cupboard. The cupboard next to the oven had always been the one for all the baking utensils and the scales were classed as one of those as they were almost never used for anything but baking. How anyone could justify they go into the cleaning products cupboard was beyond you, hence why you didn't look there but now you had them and that was the thing that really mattered.
Slamming the scales on the side, you hoped you didn't break them or anything else due to the number of things on the side. You had emptied the baking cupboard partially to look for the scales but also because you deemed some of it useful for your current venture but there were also a lot of different ingredients that you needed.
Alex joined you in the kitchen, looking rather concerned at the mess she found there, especially seen as you hadn't actually started baking yet.
"What's wrong?" Alex asked.
One of the things she learnt when you first started dating was that when you were stressed or upset you baked. You baked a lot and then would eat most of the baked goods whilst crying at some soppy old movie you had watched too many times and could almost recite word for word.
"Nothing," you grunted.
Alex knew that you were lying seen as she could see the baking that would begin to commence.
"Don't lie to me."
You let out a loud sigh, "my mum and dad are visiting, and I can't be bothered for their snide homophobic comments about us."
"It won't be too bad, they are starting to figure out what is allowed to be said," she offered trying to put you in a better mood.
"I can't risk it. I need to be on a sugar high or I might end up killing them both," you said starting to measure out ingredients.
Alex sighed knowing there was no way to get you out of this stupor, just trying to make your time there quicker. "At least let me help."
"Fine."
