Rafe turned primal the moment he walked into his home the night he returned from his Italian business trip. It was like leaving his wife alone while another man, a man she (as far as he knew) used to love, made him realize he had to claim his woman and let the world know she was his. Jayne loved it, although her heart ached every time Sam happened to be in the room when Rafe was near since his hands were all over her. He bought her an amazing diamond necklace while he was away, which she did wear (albeit with nothing else) for him on more than one occasion.

It was now a month away from the auction to get the St. Dismas cross, and Rafe was tying up loose ends at the cathedral one evening. Jayne sat in the in the living room in her long silky black robe, a glass of brandy in her hand as she sipped the drink and read a fashion magazine in hopes of finding a dress for the auction. Suddenly, Rafe barged into the house with two armed men in front of him. Jayne sat up on the couch and put her glass down on the side table before pulling her robe closed with one hand and standing from the couch. "Rafe?" Her calling to him was only answered with the raise of Rafe's index finger as he and the men sped past her and down the hall towards not only Rafe's study, but Sam's room.

FUCK.

Rafe's angered voice was heard before glass shattered causing Jayne to flinch. The men began speeding out of the house while Rafe walked into view, his hand pushing angrily through his slicked back hair. "Rafe. What's going on?"

"He's gone. Sam fucking ran off."

"What?"

Rafe took a very long and deep breath in before walking towards his wife, his hand cupping her cheek. "Did he say anything to you?" Rafe asked, almost like she was faking her surprise at his words, when she in fact was just as caught off guard as he was.

"No, Rafe. I thought he was still with you. I...he didn't say anything." Jayne's eyes showed a mix of worry and sadness at Sam's sudden leaving. "You sure he's gone gone?"

"His things are gone, Jaynie. He's gone." Rafe dragged his thumb down Jayne's lips as he pulled away from her, his hand rubbing the back of his neck as he paced on the plush carpet of the room. "I bet...I bet that little sonofabitch is going to find Nathan. He has to be. He can't do it alone."

"You think he's going to try and get the cross, don't you?"

Rafe turned and smiled like he was impressed with his wife. He walked back towards her as she stood there with her hip pushed out and her hand rested on the curve of her body, her robe opening to her clevage ever so slightly as Rafe's finger pushed the silken fabric open a bit more. "Of course he is, Jayne. But, I know for a fact, he is going to keep the last two years a very tight lipped secret from his baby brother."

"But..Hasn't he given you enough to go on? Without the cross?"

"You're giving him too little credit, babe. Sam's not stupid. I know he's been withholding clues from me to take back to Nate." Rafe's finger slid down the crook of Jayne's neck causing her to tilt her head and grant him more access to her supple skin. He pushed the long dark hair off her shoulder and pressed his fingers slightly into the back of her neck before a voice that caused so much anger to rise in Jayne's belly came within ear shot.

"Rafe. My men just told me. Are you sure he's gone."

Nadine walked in and Rafe hung his head, obviously hoping he could've blown off some steam with Jayne before her evening plans, and before Nadine came barking at him.

"Yes, Nadine. I'm sure. He took his shit, he's gone."

"He couldn't have gone far. I'll get my men to check the airport."
