Brody's POV

When the light from the sun streamed through the windows and onto my troubled face, I blinked rapidly to adjust to the light, while the hollers and whoops of teenage boys in the morning started. I would normally cheer along with them, hyping myself up for a day full of food, sports, and friends, but now wasn't normal. Now was when I was stood up by a girl who I'd liked since last summer, now was when I hadn't slept a bit since the event, just feeling sorry for myself and cursing myself for being an idiot. I had stayed out until almost 1 AM, even when it was clear Eva wasn't going to show. I just couldn't convince myself she would really do this, I guess she didn't like me as much as I thought ― or at all for that matter. And it my lovey-dovey stupor, I had signed up for a play that I wanted nothing to do with. I couldn't back out now, though, I would look like a pussy. So I guess I was just going to have to deal with it. In my dedicated brood, I hadn't noticed some of my friends staring at me.

"Hey, man, you ok?" I hear, Evan, my closest friend, asked, not looking too concerned.

"Yeah, he's just trippin' over Eva," another cabin mate puts in.

"No, nothing happened, literally nothing," I spit out, venom lacing my words.

"That why did you need to be on such a big hill, far away from any wondering eyes?" Braedon replied with an ugly smirk. I had no idea why my sister had dated him. I simply ignored him, he was such an asshole. "Really, I'm not surprised she didn't show up, from what I hear, other guys got their eyes on her. One of them probably just got to her first," He ended with a self-satisfied smirk. A smirk that made me think... Would Eva have gone for him?

"That wouldn't happen," I reply, sounding more confident than I felt.

"Really? She'd do anything you gave her, from what I've heard- and experienced," Braedon drew out.

"Hey, she's not like that, douchebag!" I defend her, not fully knowing why I was so mad after she had been a bitch to me.

"Sure," Braedon drew out, winking. "The innocent ones really are the-"

"Shut the hell up, Braedon, or I swear I will punch you into next week," I threaten. He starts to open his mouth to continue but, before he can, I swing at him, hand shaped into a fist. The cabin erupted into chaos as boys pulled both me and Braedon away from each other. We glared at each other, if looks could kill, both of us would be dead on the ground.

"Take a joke next time," Braedon slurred, the blood dripping from his mouth interfering with his speech.

"Make a better one and I will. And it better not involve Eva," I shoot back, right before slamming the door on my way out of the cabin. I didn't know where I was going, just that it was away from Braedon and his punchable face.

Clara's POV

One second I was laughing with my friends, planning the perfect prank and the next I was lost in thought. I remembered the first time Eva and I met, here at camp. I smile fondly at the memory, but my face twists into an expression of regret as I thought of what I had withheld from her.

"Hey, let's be friends," I hear a voice that sounds like mine, and look at the image in front of me. Two young girls, one in pigtails, the other in braids.

"Okay!" The young girl in braids replies cheerfully. I had always been jealous of Eva's skills with her hair. I had always been jealous of everything. Which is probably the reason I tried to conveniently forget about her and my brother's date, I couldn't see her get the perfect love life when mine was so screwed. And I couldn't deal with also being jealous of my brother, always getting to hang out with my best friend.
