Space's POV

I was equally as surprised as everyone else when Clara volunteered to walk to get dinner with me. I continued to be surprised when I wasn't objecting to Clara's company. Something about the way she looked, like she wasn't enjoying camp for the first time in forever, rattled me enough to let her walk with me. I quietly waited by the door while she slipped on her flip flops and pulled a sweatshirt over her head. The cabin was silent for the first time all summer, everyone waiting for someone to quip or insult someone. At this point, I'd be more comfortable with Clara punching me then wanting to talk. She threaded her arm through mine and I was so shocked I didn't pull away. "Bye," she and I called in unison as the cabin door swung shut behind us. As soon as the cabin door swung shut, she removed her arm. We walk for a few minutes in silence, I was waiting for her to say something, but when it seemed like she wasn't going to express her thoughts, I started.

"I hate being enemies," I blurt out. I hadn't been planning to say that and, now that it's out here, I want to take the words and shove them right back down my throat. Clara would probably laugh in my face and then tell the entire cabin. But instead she kept walking, without a word. Apparently coming to a conclusion, Clara stopped. I stopped with her and she inspected me, not saying a word. Finally, she took a deep breath.

"Me too. For the, like, three seconds we got along, it was really fun. I'm sorry for being a bitch at breakfast," She sighed again, but seemed to be getting more comfortable.

"Speaking of breakfast..." My question trailed off when I couldn't find the right words.

"Braedon... still wanted to be with me. Really bad. I guess." Her implied meaning left hanging in the air.

"Clara, I'm- I'm so sorry"

"It's fine, it's not you. So," Her eyes trail to the ground. "Space, can we just be friends? If we're living together we really should be." Clara half-smiled at me.

"Yeah, honestly, that would be a lot easier than hating you," I share a full grin with her and our conversations wander as we go to get our cabin's dinner.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our cabin was filled with forgetting lines and strangled high notes for the rest of the night. After dinner, Kara seemed to suddenly remember that auditions are tomorrow, and freaked out. This led to a cabin-wide freak out that resulted in a two people getting slapped out of hysteria, and two more people rocking on the cabin floor then there should be.

"It's a beautiful fricking day!" I nodded in appreciation at Amelia's flawless high note. She was a shoe-in for Veronica. She smiled shyly back at me and started singing again, though quieter.

Currently, I was trying to memorize Heather McNamara's lines. No matter how hard I tried, I could not squeeze in her line in Big Fun in time. I noticed Clara on the other side of the room, reciting Chandler's lines with ease. I wish I could have Clara's innate ability to remember lines, or Amelia's positively stunning voice. But no, I still was just me, just plain old Space. Either noticing my look of deprecation, or just being nice, Eva came over.

"Want to run lines?" She asked, sample script in hand. I nodded.

"You're Duke, right?" I replied, when she confirmed this, I started saying the lines, trying to put as much feeling into them as I could. I stuttered when I tried to recall a line that was just escaping my head.

"Heather wants you, now. Like now now," Clara supplied from the other side of the room. I almost glared before I remembered we were supposed to be friends.

"Aren't you auditioning for Chandler?" I questioned. There was no way I'd beat out Clara for Heather Mac.

"Yep, I just remember stuff well I guess," She replied. I swallowed my pride and took a deep  breath.
