you clutched the supermarket flowers in your hands, your eyes averted to the smooth gray tile ground. you could hear monitors beeping and people muttering behind the door across from you, and your hands trembled with anticipation.

you closed your eyes and thought.

it was only two days before when peter stumbled into your room, revealing his injuries and his secret identity to you, a girl he only met a week or so before. you watched tony stark carry him off from your window, and since then you haven't been able to get your mind off of him. worry clouded your mind, up to the point where you couldn't eat or sleep. you had been repeatedly checking the phone for a call from peter or even tony, just a sign that he's either okay or that he isn't.

it was eating you up inside.

you were able to talk to ned about it, it being spider-man. apparently ned had known for only a little bit of time before you, but he was able to tell you enough about the whole spider bite and what the stark internship really was.

you never really knew this boy.

luckily, you had gotten a call earlier today from someone who worked for tony. they explained that you could come by the headquarters to talk to him and maybe get some answers sorted.

so here you were, in a superheros headquarters, visiting your study partner.

suddenly the door clicked open and you rose to your feet, clutching the flowers as if they were a lifeline. tony and a doctor walked out of the room, and tony sauntered up to you.

"hey kid, y/n, was it?" he asked. you nodded.

"listen, i usually don't do this sort of thing, but peter really wanted you here. he's doing fine now, all the doctors are giving him the a-okay, but we just wanna make sure he's resting up. i'm sure you understand."

"yeah, i do." you said with a small voice. "so he's okay?"

"he's just fine." tony answered.

"what happened?" you asked. tony looked at you and then the room.

"peter will tell you all about it i'm sure. you're a good kid, y/n, from what peter told me and from what i saw the other night, it's sweet to see you kids care for one another."

he put on a signature pair of sunglasses and turned back to you. "now if you'll excuse me, i got dinner reservations with the misses. you know how it is."

he plucked a flower from the bouquet and placed it in his pocket. he shot you a wink and walked down the hall.

"thank you." you said out loud.

you turned around and faced the half open door. shakily, you reached for the door knob and drew in a deep breath.

inside, the room was bright and quiet. the only sound was the faint beeping of the monitors as they studied peters health.

peter himself was in a light gray hospital gown with 'stark' written on the left pec. his hair was curly and bouncing off the top of his forehead, and his face was covered in faint scratches. his eye however, was still circled with a purple ring.
