"Mama's coming home."
The strange lady spoke.
Scrooge and Donald's eyes grew wide as tears blurred their vision. No no no this couldn't be happening! How? Where?
"I-It couldn't be......" Scrooge stuttered. As he stared at the, now static, laptop screen.
Donald remained silent. He couldn't believe it. All those years thinking his sister was dead. All those years living in pain and sorrow when.........when she was alive the whole time. This had to be a trick! There's no way this was real!
"No no no!" Donald threw his arms in front of him waving his hands at the laptop screen as his eyes squinted and he snapped his head away. His sister couldn't be alive! It was impossible! There's no oxygen on the moon! There's no way to survive! She's gone! ............Isn't she?
Huey, Dewey and Louie sat confused and wide-eyed as their gaze switched back and forth from the static laptop and their pain-filled uncles. It couldn't be.........no way.........was that who they thought it was? No no no, it couldn't be! She's dead! "U-Uncle Scrooge? Is that......?" Huey paused as him and his brothers stared into Scrooge's frightened eyes. Scrooge swallowed a lump in his throat.
"D-Della Duck......"
Scrooge's pupils shrunk as he felt his heart shatter into a million pieces. There's no way that could actually be her! No way! No how! She......she's dead. It sent shivers up his spine as he glared at the static laptop screen, reminding himself of his failure all those years ago. Reminding himself of the ten years he spent searching for her but still............no avail.........How? When? Where? Questions ran wild throughout his mind as he found himself the centre of attention. Everyone stared at Scrooge, who's face had turned pale and eyes had grew over one hundred times larger.
Dewey's mind ran wild as his thoughts flew threw him faster than a bullet. There's no way.........It couldn't be. Slowly he felt his heart breaking as his anger rose. All those months of fishing for the truth. All those times he blindly risked his life and Webby's to find it and when he did.........he was heart broken, just as he was now. Scrooge told them he spent ten years searching! He told them she was gone! That she was never coming back! Yet.........there she was.........on the laptop screen. His eyes squinted, trying to maintain his anger until he heard his name being called in the sweetest and most innocent voice. "......Dewey?" Webby hesitated as she reached for his shoulder.
That's it. That was the moment when he snapped. He stood to his webbed feet and slammed his hands on the table. "Are you kidding me?!" He snapped, death glaring his eldest uncle right in the eyes. "You said she was dead! You said you searched everywhere!"
All watched on in shock as Dewey spilt his heart out and slowly, one by one, tears streamed down his face like a waterfall.
Scrooge held up his index finger, taking a breathe to defend himself, only to be cut off by two more angry ducklings. Huey and Louie.
"No! No! Don't you dare say you did!" Louie snapped standing and pointing a finger at his uncles chest, pushing him back.
"There's no way you could've searched everywhere! I bet you just payed Mrs Beakley to say that!" Huey yelled, standing from his seat and throwing his arms in the air. "Yeah that's right," he continued, "that would be why you went broke! Because you payed Mrs Beakley to lie!" He balled his fists, punching the air above his head.
He was about to continue on, until he heard the cry of his sister-like duck. "Are you kidding me, Huey?!" She cried. "My granny would never do that!" She stood from her seat, letting her arms hit the air as they please.
Huey regretted what he said next, as his anger took control. "How do we know?! Your granny is a top spy! She could be hiding anything!" He screamed, once again throwing his arms in the air. Webby felt the tears sting her face as the words he spoke pierced through her heart like an arrow.
"Enough! All of you!" Beakley yelled, drawing all eyes to her. Her face was as red as Huey's hat as she balled her fists. "Mr McDuck did not lie! He searched a decade for your mother! Going in determined and heart-filled and leaving broke. Not just in his money bin but in his heart! He lost a vital part of his life......his family! Not only losing Della but losing Donald and you boys, too. All those years missing the first steps of his grand-nephews and trying to save your mother instead! He poured his heart out in that search only to let it run bone dry! Only to have it shatter to a million pieces!" She snapped, throwing her arms in the air.
Everyone stared at the old duck women in disbelief. Her chest puffed up and down rapidly as she had just spilt her heart out. Every word more meaningful then the last.
The room fell silent, apart from the various sniffs that floated around as the triplets and Webby tried to wipe their eyes clear.
Finally Scrooge stood to his feet, furrowing his eyebrows. His eyes shut tight as he grit his beak and clenched his cane so tight that his fists grew pale. His eyes slowly opened to meet Gyros. "How do you know this isn't from years ago?" He asked with a stern voice, never removing his eyes from Gyro, it was as if he super glued them.
Gyro shut the screen of his laptop as his sympathetic eyes met Scrooge's frustrated ones. "I sent a video camera attached to lil bulb and sent him into space for an experiment I was working on not long ago." He spoke as his eyes wondered the room, trying to avoid eye contact with his frightening boss.
With no words Scrooge walked passed everyone and towards the kitchen door. "Uncle Scrooge?" Donald asked, standing from his seat and taking a step towards his uncle. "Where are you going?" He asked as his pupils were still the size of a pea and his eyes were as large as pineapples, still in shock of everything he had just witnessed. Everything he had just heard. His sister was alive! In real life! It wasn't a dream! His heart still pounded against his chest at 1000 beats per minute.
"I'm finding a way." Scrooge spoke firmly as he adjusted his top hat, still clenching his cane as if his life depended on it. With his face still pale his eyebrows dropped further.
Webby wiped away a lasting tear before stepping towards the old man who still slowly exited the room. "To.........what?" She questioned, slowly reaching her arm out.
Scrooge paused for a moment, not turning around to meet her or anyone's gaze, but instead, focusing on the ground ahead of him. Everyone listened with open ears as he took a breathe,
"To bring Della home."
